Just a throw out-

A couple days ago I was wandering through "Big Lots" and they had several of those drying mats, reversible I believe. I didn't pay close attention.

Russ
Just to add:

The drying mats at Fred Meyers are on sale $4.99 marked down to $3.99. They were in a special display at the end of the aisle. (the endcap)

Hallerlake:
Here's a great shot of Dottie wandering around my backyard (photo by dawng, thank you Dawn) maybe a week before she flew to the neighbors and was killed by predators.
Such a pretty pullet. Sweet, too.
She was the first (and only) bird I've lost to predators.
How I wish I had cut her wings....

RaZ- Not an indoor poultry pet, but this is my daughter and "her" chicken Ethel; You may use this picture personally in your case but please don't post elsewhere without my permission. All our chickens have names and are, indeed, pets who provide us eggs as well; we have Lucy, Ethel, Martha, Laya, Thelma, Louise, Dartha, Pip, Scarlett, Princess, and Tilda.

Jess,
Photos like this are priceless.

I'm fighting the "chicken wars" on 2 fronts.
Locally, I'm fighting the ordinance in my city and the judge loves pictures. In my defense, I'm citing the ordinance that says the only animals allowed are "dogs, cats and canaries...or other common pets". When I said that chickens were more common pets than canaries, the prosecutor scoffed and said that "no one would ever have a chicken as a pet". I hope to present evidence to refute that ignorant statement. Thus my request for statements and photos like you have shared. Thank you.

Additionally, there are several of us here in Michigan who are fighting for the right to keep chickens in our backyards. State law is on our side, but there is a proposal that would outlaw chickens for everyone unless they have a commercial farm in a zoned agriculture area. This affects the small farmer and the businesses that use locally grown farm-type products.

It's not just chickens, but beekeepers, rabbit keepers, and even vegetable gardeners. Anyone who produces a viable farm product.

This WA thread moves fast and covers a lot of topics. If any of you want to know more about the fight in Michigan, please PM for details. That way I don't interrupt the the flow of the thread.

Thank you all.

Raz. The prosecutor needs to go back to school and maybe this time they might teach him what the constitution says.
That goes for all the people involved in government and people complaining about what others have on their property.
Only people who have a right to say what you can or can't have is Homeowner Associations because when you bought the property you agreed to the terms of restrictions.
When you were born here or came here and became a citizen then you are under the constitution.
In no way no how can anyone show me where the power comes from is legal with what has happened over the years step by step taking away the rights men and woman have died for, lost legs for, the list goes on and on.

If our country got back to the constitution a whole lot of problems be solved.

BTW. Feel free to send him this post. And yes that is my real name and if he has a problem with what I said I'll educate him any time.
I've had enough of these people ruining the country my Father fought for!
You have no idea the anger I have when I read posts about keeping animals with restrictions no one has a right to impose unless one WILLINGLY joins an Association.

Well I managed to get the rest of the tree pruning done, and all the brush in the recycle bins. I also managed to dig up some more potatoes. I just weighed the potatoes, and there is another 17 lbs. I have gotten about 30 lbs of taters this year. I am fairly sure that this is the best year that I have ever had growing taters. I still have more to dig, but I am going to let them grow a bit more. I planted white, yellow, red, and purple taters this year. My bag of taters is very pretty. Now all I need to do is figure out how to keep them longer than a month or two. I would love to have a real cold storage room. DH talked about building me a basement, but we both know how high the water table is out here on the Plateau.

I have really over done things in the past two days, I have this fear I am going to pay for this. Still there is a lot more for me to do around the place.
