Someone may have already answered this, but no, they do not stay there through the entire fair. The poultry show was only the first weekend. 4-H shows their poultry later on the schedule, I'm not certain of the dates. It's a good idea to look at the entire schedule for the fair before it even begins so you can plan your visit accordingly!

I'm no expert, but I agree, it may be the nest boxes aren't "private" enough being open on top like that. I'd also make it cozier inside the next boxes as well. My girls are loving the excelsior pads from eggcartons.com. They fit well in my next boxes, and the girls can pluck at the straw as they wish to suit them. I use them for a good long time until I feel they're too soiled then, compost the old and replace with new.

Here is a photo of my nest boxes right after we built the coop. Let me see if I can find some of those excelsior pads to show you. This photo was before I switched over to the excelsior nest pads which tuck neatly into the little litter box nest box.

I have a recipe for a blackberry silk pie. No seeds, fantastic blackberry flavor and creaminess to add to the deal!

I know I'm not feelin' good ... must be affecting my reading. When I first read that I thought it said blackberry "silkie" pie! I had to go back for a double-take!

I'm glad we went the day we did then! We didn't look at the schedule. I didn't even think to do that. I think we got lucky.

I have a chicken that is acting like a rooster and I had thought that it was a hen. But she is doing the rooster attack dance at her hatch mate who is a serama rooster. She has a very small comb at this stage. She is probably 4mos maybe closer to 5mos.
She is a silkie/ EE mix

That sure looks like a ROOSTER to me!

Hackle feathers and saddle feathers look rooish to me.

Whoah! I'm shocked at the color of the BluKote! Holy cow! I managed to keep the damage just to my hands and their bottoms (though a few sprays ended up on their bodies; they're gonna look crazy!) I hope that takes care of whatever is bothering both of their bottoms. Near the end of the day when I finally managed to get close enough to the EE she also had bare red patches on her skin. Thinking antibiotics and BluKote for a while? I'm sure they're fine, couldn't be that bad since it doesn't seem to bother them at all, even when I touched it. Thoughts anyone?
