Although if you don't sell them I could take them to yakatat for the family trying to improve food substance in the small village.
big_smile.png

Are they tough? Preds are a worry So I only send up my tough boogers that can take care of themselves well.

I just figured since I was going to visit a buddy of mine in Chicago who is a chicken peep too we'd go visit the farm and I'd try to get a few dozen home with me
big_smile.png

MIght see if I can find more in the area too... although theres talk of visiting family in the Netherlands so I might have to finish my import papers and go get a few doz there too.... and maybe a dutch Shepard pup .... need a pup like a need a hole in my head but hey who knows

Netherlands? Home of the Brabanter?
Yup.... was thinking to get some of the parent stock to many of the breeds ..... The Friese Hoenders or The Friesian Fowl but if I get to go and I get to a breeder I will be bring back every egg I can afford of every breed they got!
big_smile.png
*part of the Chiago trip is to test how the eggs do as carry on in a plane ride and how the pressure etc affects em
Got a lot of family I've never met and have been invited but the issue atm is how my court case falls in the end of oct.... if it goes well then everything stays the same and I can go... if it goes aginst me I'm so hosed I may not travel for years...

here is to hoping it goes my way and I don't have to pay a bunch of money I don't have cuz someone else screwed up in 2004 and they blame me.
Bring some Brabanters and i will be eternally in your debt.

Yesterday I spent all afternoon in the backyard with our three hens and two 5mo+ Leghorn pullets who are taking their sweet time laying. I happened to catch two of the hens laying (which they do in various nesting spots along the fence on the edges of the yard), and the two Leghorns actually started hanging out next to whoever was laying at the time, squatting down and squawking a bunch. Then they'd hang around the nests for a bit, checking things out after the hen had left. I've never seen this behavior before. Maybe that means they'll lay soon. I hope so! Getting worried they're just going to wait until spring.

DH and I are absolutely amazed that we combined our genes and got such a gorgeous girl! We call her The Chicken Whisperer, too. She croons and coddles them as much as most little girls go ga-ga over kittens! She'll set up her little Dora the Explorer lawn chair in the coop to keep the chickens who are laying eggs company. My insistence that they want privacy is ignored by both my DD and the hens. They seem to enjoy each others' company.
That is so wonderful that she and the chickens have an understanding for each other, and she is able to grow up with a respect and connection to living creatures.

I tried getting molasses water into her but she fought me. She's gone now. Her breathing became quite labored and she started having fluid come out of her nose. Sounded to me like she was drowning in her own internal fluids. She had to have been poisoned, nothing else makes sense. DH and I culled her half an hour ago. It's been a rough day watching her like that and I'm really sad so I'll come back later.

Aww, Jess, I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Probably collect another 3-4 bags tomorrow & the rest of the week...and ya know I share !!!!!!!!!

Wow!! Those are gorgeous. I love the bright colors!!

Well, I must be a pretty good student. I've been taking lessons from the infamous Chicken Rustler. Let's see... today I managed to rustle 6 fertilized eggs from the Rustler himself for an eggsperiment. And, I managed to rustle a couple of lemon cucumbers and a beautiful pie pumpkin from Justbugged's gorgeous garden! Successful day, if I don't say so myself! Thanks guys!!!!
big_smile.png

After seeing Justbugged's chicken set-up, I now have ideas flowing through my brain on a possible larger run. She has a nice, large run in an urban lot.

And, no... DH has no idea I'm in possession of eggsperimental eggs. So.... shhhhh!

Eggsperimental eggs!!!?!! That sounds really exciting. I'm looking forward to hearing about how it goes with them!!

Well DH went to WinCo for me this afternoon, he'll be home soon with a car load of goodies for me to cook with this week. I love that place, SO cheap! I hope he bought some form of convenience food that won't kill our kids because I'm just plain done for the day and won't cook. Maybe we'll have breakfast for dinner...again. Oh! Brussels Sprout hash! Nevermind, I might cook if it means I get to eat that.

We love WinCo!!
I've never heard of these baskets you have been talking about, Bountiful Baskets? I'm going to have to look into that. Sounds awesome!

After a long day at work I came home to find my Silkie roo (in my avatar) dead. I am not happy to say the least. What a craptastic way to end the day!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope your doing ok.

OK all went well. The girls were very well behaved this morning. Although I didn't take any chances. I wore extra clothing under my suit (I normally get too hot to do that), the weather was very cool so the bees stayed in cluster and I took no chances I smoked the hive very heavy. I don't like to use smoke as it really messes the bees up and sets them back about 3 days in production.
That's pretty much all the good news. Oh and I took 0 yes ZERO stings !!!!

And now for the sad news. There will be no little pots of gold this year. There isn't even enough for a little taste !!!
hit.gif
Just hoping I can help them survive the winter

1.Yay for no stings!!!
2. Booo for no honey pots.
3. I hope this winter goes well for you and your bees.

Here's a humongous egg our barred rock, Amelia, laid for us a week or so back...Either that or a stray velociraptor broke into the coop and left it! Poor Amelia! We gave her extra mealworms after that one.

--Nikki

Wow!! That's a huge egg!! Yum!

The empty, bank-owned house 2 doors down just sold last week, and the new owners moved in this weekend. I welcomed them to the neighborhood this morning with an 18 pack of fresh brown eggs. Figures it never hurts for your backyard chickens to make a good first impression!

--Nikki

That's a genius idea!! I'll have to keep that in mind. Lol.

Here are all my girls! Aren''t they cute? Gotta love the Sunday dress with galoshes look!
--Nikki

Aww, she's gorgeous!! I love her outfit. So cute.

OK I picked another 6 pounds of green beans today after VF left~~~

The big container is 1 1/2 gallons...the small SS bowl hordes what I had to put in my pockets after the tupperware bucket was full.
These are ROMAS.............climbing, meaty, no strings and awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love.gif

Holy smokes that's a lotta beans! Congrats!

OK So at the risk of being thought crazy and possibly getting scolded (maybe I am and maybe I deserve it). Guess what I did this eve? Went and dare I say it....... captured a swarm of bees. Yup got a call and they were in a blue berry bush in somebodies yard. It was a matter of I put them in a box and bring home or they would die. It's too late in the year for any swarm to survive.
Also remember that a swarm tend to be very mellow. See (forgive my example but) a swarm of bees are very much like a homeless person. They have no possessions and nothing to defend. They are simply trying to survive and that is why a swarm of bees are so mellow. In the past I have actually captured with out suiting up and bare hands. That IS NOT a RISK I take now.

Congrats on your new bees!

Well, you knew what you were doing with these bees, so I'm glad you're okay and I hope the swarm survives to repay you with pots of gold in the future!
As for crazy, well, that might be another story.

Rustled me a bit-o-fudge...

You know what they say... life is like a bator full of fudge, you never know what you're going to get.

yuckyuck.gif
I love how you have a bottle of fudge topping next to the bator also! Enjoy the incubating and hatching experience!

We got our baby goats yesterday! They are adorable! I'm excited but a little bit nervous at the same time. We've never had goats so my knowledge is very limited.

Any cute or creative ideas for names? They are wethers (castrated boys). So far we have Blitz, Salt & Pepper, Billy & Goat and Scout.

Here they are.....
