Make sure you see egg pics before you buy birds. Not all Marans lay eggs that dark (those are extremely dark, and will be hard to come by, definitely won't find that dark of an egg from a hatchery bird) and all olive eggers lay different colored eggs. Egg color in neither the Marans or the OE can be guaranteed unless they are already laying.

My BCM from zgoatlady and my BCM from Cowgirlgrace both lay eggs that dark. They fade a bit later in the summer, but they are coming out dark again.

I noticed that Alex and the other autistic boy were given the two trumpets from the school that were in disgusting condition. The normal kids all got nice looking instruments.

That's terrible! That is setting an already challenged kid up for failure. That makes me sad to read that. They didn't give those boys a chance. Many kids on the spectrum can actually out-shine neurotypical kids, but only if they're given a chance. If they are given a broken instrument to practice with, they're not being given a fair chance.

My son's piano teacher told me the other day that the broken key on her piano really bugs my son. It is just missing the white plastic cover. He can get pretty hung up on it and she's constantly having to redirect him from messing with or talking about the key. Fortunately, she's very good at redirecting him, and my husband and I are completely fine with the set-up... I'm just using that as an example of how giving a child with autism a broken instrument can stifle their ability to learn because they can hyper-focus on things that are not really relevant. In your son's situation, and the other boys - a dented or broken bell will change the sound significantly, and would make it difficult for anyone to learn how to play appropriately.

BTW... I think the morning's first band practice went well. He takes band at a middle school and then gets bussed to his elementary school. I met him at the bus to pick up his instrument before he went into class (he's not a child I would trust with an instrument unsupervised), and he was all smiles! He was so very, very happy about band. It's going to be hectic having to drive to two schools each morning, but I have a feeling it will be well worth it.

I had a friend over for a playdate with our kids, and we candled a few eggs to show them (they're both 2 so it wouldn't mean much, but still got to start early!). We saw the embryos moving!

So far I am having a great week! I got to meet FlyRobinFly yesterday. I bought 5 POL chickens today from ChickieLady. After the 3 hour car ride, they were in their new home for about 2 hours and I got an egg!!

So excited! And I also got a new phone today so I won't have to deal with my old phone taking calls only if it felt like it, and getting voice mail notification hours after the voice mail was initially left. My camera on my phone also stopped working last week. So excited to get some more eggs from my new Girls!

Guess who just squatted for me today?! One of my two 16 week old Easter Eggers!!! That's super early I thought! But wouldn't it be super awesome if all 12 girls were laying before fall?! Happy dance!

I want to tell you about my flock to be. They are all on the property, but only 2 are outside so far.

First shipment came to me mostly dead. Had 3, My new puppy managed to kill on that flew much earlier than I expected... So in the coop right now are 1- EE which is likely a roo... darn it. And one Buff laced Polish hopefully a pullet. They are now 15 weeks. They seem a little bit small to be starting to lay. So I expect they will follow a normal schedule. Last flock had some really early layers. First egg from a white EE.

In the house right now are 3 white crested Blue Polish - except one is actually black colored, 2 redish- Gold EE's and 1 New Hampshire Red This group is 7 weeks old, and I am hoping I can ID the gender of my EE outside before I move them out. I think it will be easiest if I remove him (if a male) and add the others into the coop on the same day.

I am really enjoying the spunkiness of the polish chickens. And the bobbing "hair-doos" are so cute. Lots of entertainment potential here I believe. The black one is going to be top hen I think. She already rules the indoor roost. She is also the only one who manages to spend more time running around the bathroom than staying in the box. I like her a lot.

I also have an order in for 14-16 week blue ameraucana pullets to arrive in early November. 2 of them are coming. If everyone lives and if everyone turns out to be female, I will need to rehome 2 of the flock... but I think that is unlikely. I currently have 1 EE who is probably a roo, and another one inside who is looking rooish as well. Slow tail feather development and legs slightly larger than the other one. But it is hard to tell at this point.

Well, that is me. Hope everyone is well and happy. I am doing much better and spend most of my time online. So perhaps BYC will get some of my time now too.
