OK For the record. When I mentioned the price of the epi-pen I was simply stating shock at the price and that I can't pay that. I was not trying to nor do I want anyone to give me one. While I do really appreciate all of your concern and offers to help. I really am not worthy and apologize to all for the trouble.
I think you'll find that a lot of folks would disagree about the worthiness part!

Many of us would feel better knowing you had an Epi pen. After all, with zombie bees flying around at night, you might get attacked while out rustling.

Hey guys....it's my turn to

I just received 2 huge boxes of birds from the good ol' USPS, (note, said with maximum amount of hostility possible at the moment) and except for one bantam pullet, they are all dead.

The boxes are completely intact, without a single ding, I can't imagine what the hell happened.

I am absolutely sick to my stomach right now. The poor things are still in their boxes, I can't even look at them right now.

Some of these were EXTREMELY rare bantam white Faverolles...sent to me in an attempt to keep them from being lost as a variety, as I can count on 2 fingers the number of people that I know of that are breeding them...luckily I have some bantam black males to breed this little girl to, and I am going to guard her with my life....
Oh no, that is sickening. I am so sorry, Cloverleaf.

Yeah, that's why I didn't quarantine her...I didn't want her to have to go from a box of dead birds, to being completely alone...wanted her to feel as "normal" as possible...can't risk losing her...

Here she is with the d'Uccle....

She is beautiful, Jeanine. I hope you will get some nice chicks from her and can preserve these rare lines.

WOW! over 8500 pages in the Washingtonian forum, we rock this chicken thing (well, technically not me yet, I haven't received my backyard babies yet)! I was able to read the first few pages, and the last few pages, but there was a lot in the middle I didn't have time to catch-up on

This is definitely a fast moving thread, but filled with some great people and good information. So sorry to hear about your brother. I'm coming up on the third anniversary of a friend's suicide, and it still makes me very sad.

Does anyone know where I can get plain half-dozen size egg cartons? I only need a few, and don't want to spend $30-something for egg cartons. I'm hoping to find something similar to this...

I want to make nice gifts for the neighbors for the holidays. With three laying birds, I'm going to pushing it to be able to fill half dozen cartons for each neighbor.
I get mine from eggcartons.com and depending on how many you need, could probably give you some. They look like this:

My boyfriend has now convinced me that one of our three remaining chicken "vacancies" (LOL) should be occupied by an Egyptian Fayoumis. I had my heart set on three Hamburgs, but I do see his point. Without a rooster in the bunch it would be comforting to know that one of our hens is a super "watchdog" who would alert the whole bunch if a predator is about. Plus it would be pretty cool to have a half-wild bird running about that looks kinda like a roadrunner. Now the question is how the heck to get our hands on one...

CR and I have had a couple of pretty good chats during the time he was up here. One of the things we chatted about is how, if people don't understand the situation others are in, it is easy to make snap judgments about others here on the forum. Feelings get hurt. It doesn't end up being a positive place for anyone.

So, I thought I'd share a little bit about the yard situation I live with. I know I have had my feelings hurt on more than one occasion about critical remarks toward people who don't or are unable to grow large edible gardens. I have worked very, very hard to have the itty bitty garden that I now have. I have four 4'x4' square foot gardens, one 4'x10' asparagus bed that grow well. I have attempted to grow other plants without them being in the raised beds and they do not survive in the ground. I have studied permaculture for 4+ years and dream that someday I'll have land that will support that dream. Until then, I will continue to try to make do with what I have.

My entire 10,000 sq. foot lot is on what is known as glacier till. Basically, we live on gravel. We live on a cliff. A very large and well known gravel company mines about 1 mile down the road.

So, I thought I'd share so you guys could see why I don't have a large garden - and why, what little garden I have takes a ton of work just to get it to grow. I'm going to continue on doing what I can to create the yard and garden that I dream of - which is why my blog is called the imagination garden. I can imagine the garden - I just have to get the rocks and soil to cooperate with my imagination.

Wow, I feel your pain. I have only a fraction of the rocks that you have, but it makes everything a pain in the butt! Every shovel full of dirt comes up with rocks, and I've dug ones as big as grapefruit out of my yard. When we bought the house, I had only gardened in Texas and Nebraska, and we figured somebody really liked to collect rocks. Why else would there be big piles of them along the fence lines and in decorative pots???
