This is great to learn everyones ideas of dehydrators.....Just a FYI that i just heard.....teflon is highly toxic to birdlife and the Excalibur has teflon flat sheets..( fruit leather).
I don't know if it applies since the warning was specific to teflon pans....something about the heat releasing a gas that is toxic to them. I have grass parakeets in my house so don't take the chance....but do think this is the model for me too. My daughter says this is true for some cleaning products also.....maybe goes back to the canary in the mine theme. Worth checking out.....

I do not worry about the Teflon...mine is older & has plastic screen type trays.
I do not make fruti leather.
I DO avoid canned food though, due to ALL commercially canned food CANS are coated on the interior with EPOXY RESINS which are totally responsible for my immunal system sensitization.
Epoxy Resins, a 2 part clear-heat hardened coating is also used on printed circuit boards, it is the green hard stuff on the circuit board, once hand silk screened on each board & baked in giant ovens at 350 for 1 hour.
The smoke was awful, and I silk screened for 15 years...I am deathly allergic to Epoxy Resins and so avoid all I can.
Some chemicals are not so bad, but quite a few cause 'sensitization' and should be avoided at all costs.
Google Epoxy Resin....you'll see.
 
I cook with Teflon cookware. i also have at least a dozen very small birds in the same room. They are completely on the opposite side of the room, but the room is very open. To say the least I haven't ever lost a bird due to my cookware. I wouldn't want to test the pans by seriously over heating a pan. My understanding is that the problem with Teflon is when it is to the point of being smoking hot. I also have to say that the cookware that I am using is a very high end grade of Teflon, so it could also depend on the quality of the pans.

Exactly, do not overheat the teflon cookware.
 
I completely agree about the quilts. I love to piece quilt tops, but I am not crazy about the actual quilting part. I have been sending my quilt tops to a lady in Utah for long arm quilting. The most I paid for quilting was about 160.00 for a Queen/King size top. Most of the quilts are about 100.00 each for the quilting. I love her work, and I am saving at least 200 to 300 per quilt on the quilting.

I really love the batik fabrics, and I currently have one cut out and waiting to be sewn together. Now all I need to do is clear enough stuff out of the sewing room, so that I can think again in there. I have a lot of stuff that doesn't really belong in the room that I need to have out of there. Plus I need to organize the stuff on the cutting table, so that I can find the cutting mat again. Maybe after all the kitchen is done, I will be able to spend time in there again.
There is a woman here in Raymond who does long arm computerized quilting.
My Mother does all her quilting by the "Divide and Conquer" method.
It is the name of a quilt book, cannot remember the author's name.
Anyways, you basically machine quilt sections, then sew them together.
 
Thanks! I love that quilt too. I'll take a couple good shots for you today of that one, it's simply amazing! I don't know if you can tell from this picture but theres another full pattern hidden in the one you see, my mom used barely lighter and barely darker batiks to make the windmill type swirls. It's hard to see in this crappy pic though. This quilt is a king bed quilt as well.
I'm seriously intrigued here...I always thought Velveeta was one step away from actually being plastic and not food

I'm gonna have to look into this!! If we could even make some mac n cheese occasionally as a treat it would be amazing. That's one thing the kids miss a lot! No quesadillas, grilled cheese (because I don't make GF bread, we just eliminated it), mac n cheese, etc. Sad :(
That is exactly what I do with it...that and on tacos & such.
I use Quinoa elbow mac, and velvetta...so smooth & yummy.
We do not eat it alot, only a few times a month...but sooooooooooooooooooooo cheesy !

have you searched for dairy free cheese ?
I know they are out there cuz I have had them before.
I have had sliced sandwich types, which were great, and alot like Kraft singles, in both "swiss' and American flavours.
 
Here is another one of mine from way long years ago...a smapler.
When I make a quilt, I always make 2-3 extra blocks.
After a year or so, I sew all those extra blocks together to creat a sampler.
This one was for DH's nutty sister who loves color.








It is really fun to do a sampler.....and fast, since all the extra blocks were already made.

One thing we do cheat on is butter. It seems whatever process is used to make butter from milk actually breaks it down in a way that it doesn't affect the kids when we use it sparingly. For that reason, we use butter in some cooking, or on popcorn as a treat. As far as a spread, we also cheat occasionally and use Earth Balance "buttery spread"; it contains soy which affects Jeanine badly, but everyone else is fine on it so we use it sparingly on stuff like GF corn bread. So, there's ways to not be quite as miserable, in fact the more we get into this diet the better off we are :)

It sounds to me like you have a sensitiviy to milk protein, which is Casein (sp?) and butter is made by removing the whey (which has the casein) and leaves the fat.
Most allergies are to a protein.
Butter is fat, no protein.
So, you need a phoney cheese casein free.
I'll look at the ones I used to get.
