I hate to tell ya Tamara but yes it was both of the half polish ones. this one today was getting really pretty ! I don't want to keep any babies BUT this isn't how I wanted to get rid of them!

I'm trying very hard to be patient, as two of the silkie eggs pipped late last night, and they are making some progress this morning. I REALLY want a silkie! The lavender Orpington hasn't made any more progress.

The instructions for my incubator specifically said to take the eggs out of the turner and lay them on the screen to hatch.

Seriously, this is driving me nuts!

Jennifer

The set of eggs the silkie hatched were very late. She wasn't always good at making sure all the eggs were under her. The first pipped on day 22 and hatched on day 23, the last hatched on day 25 early. I was surprised they hatched with the abuse they had, but there are four little chicks running around outside right now.

Sometimes it just takes them a while to go from pip to hatch.

Hey Jennifer! Can you share more pics of your babies?? I would love to see what all this pipping looks like!

x2!!! That's fantastic. I'd have been sick over that beauty! The day we lost our current kitty's brother to a coyote pack, I was devastated

On another HAPPY NOTE!!! Willow laid her first egg for us here!!! I almost laughed at her over it though, she's been laying for many many months, takes a break when she moved homes, and her first egg was a brilliant blue fart egg! The most gorgeous egg I've ever seen, the shell is extremely rough like sandpaper (how'd that feel comin' out?! eek!), and it doesn't even move my egg scale into the peewee range!

I'm sure the next one will be better, I"m just so thrilled she finally started laying 2.5 weeks after arriving here.

Oh, that's too funny!

So I went out to the barn to look at my thermo cube to see if it would work outside. It will NOT fit vertically. There was a Hawk inside my run and it had one of my babies. When it saw me it dropped the baby and flew up into a tree. It was pretty small. lot smaller then my hens. Where was my rooster????? UNDER the barn. He's out of here next week!!!! the baby was dead. so I have lost two babies in a week. I can't cover my run it is something like 70 ft. X 100 ft
Ron that is so sad, poor baby

. I am wondering if there might be hope in a "mini run"? Like a three-sided run inside your run that you could cover? But I don't know if that would be enough....

Thanks for the info on the Thermo Cube. I almost ordered one this morning but decided to wait until I heard back if it would fit in an exterior outlet. With hubby being an electrician, I'm pretty sure whatever he installs will be an outdoor outlet with covers.

I'm so sorry about your babies. I would not be happy with the rooster, either. I would consider protecting the girls and babies as his main job.

That's a good idea. Ron could you build a small covered run to fit inside your big run to protect your babies? Or even a small chicken tractor... when something happens and I get worried about my girls, but I want them to have access to grass, they end up inside my small PVC tractor. It worked great when they were little. Now that they're bigger I use it when I want to have them with me in the front yard, or if company is over, etc. Here they are drying off after a bath. I was determined they were going to stay clean until I put them on the roost that evening.

Depends on th orentation of the covers but not on most. I doubt it will rotate. I would just add a short extension cord.

Great idea!

Edited to add: I just ordered the Thermo Cube. I hope it will work great with the heated water bowl. They'll both be delivered on Saturday.

I'm really beginning to love Amazon Prime.

Quote: Ron so sorry to hear about yer babies. I don't know what breed or age they were. I do have some Am (EE) and Cuckoo Moron that were early september hatch. You are welcome toany of them you may want. These are all pure bred mutts from the feed store.
Also one of the Am is looking like HE's gonna need a job guarding yer flock
