I was thinking that they were all pullets last time I saw them. But that was awhile ago as I am sure Ron would be quick to point out.

I am dealing with squirrels stealing saffron crocus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it is chipmunks.
I have never seen a squirrel eat a hen's egg....ever...............and I am OLD

These are tiny little pullet eggs, from a breed that is a small-egger to begin with; they are no more than 1/3 the size of the eggs we get from our Wyandottes. I don't know how much bigger they'll ultimately get, but probably nowhere near as big as the Wyandottes lay. And I want my eggs NOW!!!

One friend suggested Havahart squirrel repellant and says it works great, but I'm super poor and can't afford it (can barely even make rent right now). Another friend suggested a pepper repellant concoction of some kind. I recently heard that chickens don't have the receptors for hot spice like we do so it's OK to give them spicy foods, and it turns out that my boyfriend accidentally made some beans and rice last week that were way too hot even by his robust standards, so we gave it to the chickens and they gobbled it right up. Maybe that would work! Has anyone had any success with this method? If so, how does it work? Know any recipes?

One of my BF's roommates just texted and said she's seen TWO squirrels with my little Leghorn eggs in their mouths. That would explain the eight-day lapse in between the first two and the third...

Hey, I had an idea. Maybe it's a bit gross, but what if we sprinkled a little used cat litter around the coop and run?

You can just sprinkle cayenne wherever you don't want the squirrels to be. You can get bird seed with cayenne in it that is supposed to keep squirrels away. It didn't work for me.

I don't mean to offend here, but ouch! Newbies don't deserve to be criticized for asking how to raise their chickens. Every single one of us had to start learning somewhere, and many of us realize that we will be learning for years to come.

Not to mention - there are children, who raise chickens for 4-H, on chicken forums. I know for a fact there are very young teens who participate on BYC. To a child, this statement would be very hurtful.

I agree i do not put my two cents in here very much,but not all parts of the country raise chickens the same. I am from the east coast, it was not until I moved to Washington that i heard scratch was a treat. I have raise hogs,chickens and other animals, they all got corn of some kind to produce fat which help fight the cold winters. I agree she should have add different feed with it but if they free range they will find most of that on their own.
