I've seen those and I can't imagine them being comfortable. But what do I know. I can't imagine sleeping while holding onto a roost, either.

oh yes, and good sausage, good jerky, Yum,yum. Alas I can no longer hunt and if I did get so lucky I have not idea how I would get it out of the woods. Way beyond my physical ability now. On the subject of egg laying.
Fall usually does slow the laying down a bit.
Hopefully with 16 hrs of light, must be bright enough to well illuminate the coop, will help.
But you also have to realize that not all breeds lay the same amount of eggs per year.
Few lay anywhere close to 365 a year.
On the old BYC there was breed pages which compared egg laying capibilities of the various breeds, I do not see it here any longer.

Another common misconception is the bigger the bird, the bigger the eggs they will lay: not true.
LF Cochins, for example, are noted poor layers and lay a medium egg at that, despite being huge birds.
Jersey Giants are huge and lay a Jumbo egg, each breed is different !

So if you have a mixed flock, you may score lots of eggs one day, and few the next.
Fall is also molt time, so be pateint if they are in molt, laying will resume shortly provided they have sufficient light.

Ok...think that's all I was going to comment on.

Yeah, it kinda baffles me when folks choose their breeds based solely on looks and/or personality, then wonder why they don't lay every day. The best layers are white leghorns - nothing special to look at (other than huge combs) and they are flighty, but them's the breaks. That's why I chose Exchequer Leghorns. They are Leghorns so they will still lay quite well, but they are more eye-catching than just plain white.

The funniest part to me is that the "consultant" chooses your hens for you. Call me crazy, but I thought much of the joy of raising chickens is learning about all the breeds and choosing which one(s) you want that will suit your environment and purposes. I guess some people have so much money they forget that some things are actually fun to do yourself.

I'd just live to see all that fancy furniture covered in chicken poop!
