Hello,

I have a question for all the people who raise silkies, how old are silkies on avg before they start laying. I have 3 that are about 6 months with no eggs .I may be getting inpatient I just do not know, any advice would be greatly helpful.

The ones I have now were 8 to 9 months before they started laying.

A watched pot never boils. Watched eggs never hatch and A watched pullet will never lay. When ya stop expecting it they will surprise ya.

When we got home at about 8pm, it was all poltergeist. There was a big shape moving from the house across the drive and over the fence. I swung around and shone the truck lights over the field on the other side. I counted 11 bodies and I think there were more.

Made me afraid to go check the chickens since they were about 20 feet at most from the silkie pen. Made DH come out with the gun and cover me. I'm paranoid after the buck came after me last year.

They were to far from the house for my camera to get body pictures. I got this one though. Just click to enlarge it and see those scary eyes watching, watching, watching...

Quote: I went looking it up because I know I've been told there are Cocci that do infect humans. This one is about dog cocci but has a little info on human cocci at the bottom and zoonosis capibilities.

Thanks for the research time; I've known at least one person to be infected with Coccidiosis, but it was long ago, and I can't remember the exact circumstances. It is one of the reasons people object to hay from ground fertilized with chicken manure. If I recall correctly, transmission is by direct consumption of infected feces, which means wash your hands, wash your hands, wear gloves and yeah, wash your hands anyway.

Yea I guess it could happen that way, I've gone through every species in the book, and none of it says it's tranmisable but, yea, I guess if your handling poo and don't wash your hands you deserve it!! GROSS!!

Oh I can hardly waite for the rain !!!!!!!!!
The dust, heat & flies/bugs are driving me crazy here !

There will be a price to pay though...MUD.
It has been so dry that chookies have rototilled everything to a fine powder, and being clay, we can fully expect to become inches taller with every step we take, and have to use a butter knife to slice the mud off our boots.

But it will be so nice to not have all this DUST !!!

Everything is covered in dust, our black van looks tan................

Welcome to MY world!! Terry washes the car at work every other day!!

Well I finally got the truck all loaded. And as I was hooking up the trailer I discovered that that sway bar was broken. Nice!!!!! OK so timeto make a little shopping trip. I know I saw one of those laying at the neighbors. And since it gets dark early and they go to bed about dark it was easy pickins. Heck by the time they notice the bar is gone. I will have it worn out and be ready to return it!

I Probably won't be back on in the morning and I am not sure if Salem has free WIFI. That was one of the cool things about Stevenson. Free WIFI.
If anybody wants to get in touch text my cell. There are several who have my # if ya need it. I'm sure Kim will keeping close tabs on me since SOMEBODY convinced her that she needed some nice Silkiebators relayed home from the show.
