Hello Neighbors!

My wife and I live in Tracyton, in Kitsap County. We got our birds back in June and over the past few months we built the coop and basic run. We are enclosing the run at the moment so that we can leave the birds unattended while outside. We have chickens for eggs and turkeys for meat. Before moving to Kitsap County 7 1/2 years ago, we had raised chickens and turkeys for many years back in New Hampshire where we raised three children.

We now have a nice mix of chicken breeds for egg color. We have turkeys for this year's holidays and two heritage breeds that we would like to breed for an ongoing poult supply. We never bred our birds before and are looking forward to it.

John

Glad to have you here!

Decided to make a facebook page that I can post all the old books I like.
Everything from DIY, construction, carpentry, poultry, kids books, gardening, food preservation, cookbooks, etc etc etc....
what ever I'm searching for I tend to run across good books that have great info just not what I needed at that time.
ATM I'm searching carpentry books for help/hints on my new back porch/deck....

follow if you want to see all the old books I find :D

Did a little bit outside yesterday.. my only day off this week....
For those whom have visited the slippery slide hill path is now a little better for the winter. I put in some temp steps until the deck is done and maybe the retaining wall.....

Just some wood I had and some shovel work and now the slippy mud slide is gone. :D

Good idea to take a day to rest. The mud will be there tomorrow.

Hmm... that was meant to be quoting ChickieLady's post, how odd.

I made it through about 13/16ths of the chores before I had to eat lunch. Of course tasks 13, 14, 1nd 15 involved cleaning the mess out of Ian and Sylvia's waterer(13), which I dumped over entirely instead and had to find a mason jar waterer, wash it and sterilize it(14), and fill it and put it in the run(15) so they have water. I don't go in the run with him: it's a big part of why he's meeting his maker later this week. 16 is fill Snotty Cockerel's feeder.

You need to learn to ask outright before things get desparate. I haven't quite got that one down myself, but I'm working on it.

It's just weird for me; I was trained that one saw the need and filled it, and asked to help instead of for it: I need entirely repolarized, or something.

That looks great.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I went ahead and cleaned out her coop. It was not too much work, though now her setup is much cleaner than mine! LOL I removed 4 giant trash bags full of damp poopy ammonia stinky shavings, scraped out the inside of the poopy nest boxes and refilled with shavings, and spread another whole bag of compressed pine shavings over dirt. I bought them a treat ball to and filled it with scratch, they were enthralled! It was super cute. Nobody would let me touch them except her Easter Egger, who kept flying up onto my shoulder! Everyone else is completely terrified of people and stayed far away. I kicked out the 2 broodies from their nests at least a dozen times each. They have nothing in their boxes; just a wood box with no eggs or litter. I left theirs empty so they were more uncomfortable. I know my friend has no idea how to break them but she really doesn't care.

I don't want to meddle; I offered to get her hatching eggs from someone here but she wasn't interested. Anyone know what happens to a broody who never gets eggs or chicks? Anyway, it was a crappy job but someone needed to do it and I'm so happy to help! I remember how I felt with my pregnancies; with Jeanine I was sick from the day I peed on a stick until 21 weeks along, throwing up all day every day.

Now if only I had a friend who wanted to clean out my coop and run.....
