Hmm... that was meant to be quoting ChickieLady's post, how odd.
I made it through about 13/16ths of the chores before I had to eat lunch. Of course tasks 13, 14, 1nd 15 involved cleaning the mess out of Ian and Sylvia's waterer(13), which I dumped over entirely instead and had to find a mason jar waterer, wash it and sterilize it(14), and fill it and put it in the run(15) so they have water. I don't go in the run with him: it's a big part of why he's meeting his maker later this week. 16 is fill Snotty Cockerel's feeder.
My quote:

How nice to lay around all day, and then rest afterwards.

Actually saw it somewhere else & stole half of it !

Thanks for all the input everyone. I went ahead and cleaned out her coop. It was not too much work, though now her setup is much cleaner than mine! LOL I removed 4 giant trash bags full of damp poopy ammonia stinky shavings, scraped out the inside of the poopy nest boxes and refilled with shavings, and spread another whole bag of compressed pine shavings over dirt. I bought them a treat ball to and filled it with scratch, they were enthralled! It was super cute. Nobody would let me touch them except her Easter Egger, who kept flying up onto my shoulder! Everyone else is completely terrified of people and stayed far away. I kicked out the 2 broodies from their nests at least a dozen times each. They have nothing in their boxes; just a wood box with no eggs or litter. I left theirs empty so they were more uncomfortable. I know my friend has no idea how to break them but she really doesn't care.

I don't want to meddle; I offered to get her hatching eggs from someone here but she wasn't interested. Anyone know what happens to a broody who never gets eggs or chicks? Anyway, it was a crappy job but someone needed to do it and I'm so happy to help! I remember how I felt with my pregnancies; with Jeanine I was sick from the day I peed on a stick until 21 weeks along, throwing up all day every day.

Now if only I had a friend who wanted to clean out my coop and run.....

Excellent work Jess !!!!!!!!!!!

Stinky Ammonia in a coop is so very harmful for both bird & humans !
And then some people wonder why their birds get sick !!!
Coops need fresh air as well, cleam fonts, and NO AMMONIA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is severely harmful to bird's lungs !!

This for our StumpFarmer:

This being day 10, of the 14 eggs, 2 are clear, 1 is a bloodring but the embryo is still alive, active & trying...most likely will perish.
The rest are ACTIVE !!!
Kicking & doing extremely well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing smelling of ammonia was the deeper litter, under the roosts. Her coop is actually extremely ventilated. It basically has half walls, with lattice on the upper portion (covered with chicken wire) and a roof. The roosts are below the top of the half walls, so there won't be wind on the birds; I couldn't smell the ammonia until I had my face right down by it after digging it up a bit with the rake. I don't think any harm was done as it was all buried. But yes, I think she'll be happy that she didn't have to do this on her own, or ask her husband to; he's not really keen on the chickens.

And yes, I did practice good biosecurity. I washed my boots with a bleach solution before and after going there, and before coming in the house I took off my soiled clothes in the garage and put them in the washer. I showered right away and got all the dust out of my hair and skin.

Aaah! Such a lovely autumn Sunday. Rainy, a little blustery, yellow leaves fluttering down...what more could I ask?! The chickens are mildly offended by the rain, but they have 2 fir trees, the space under the deck, and their run for shelter, and so they've been okay. (And my daughter has taken them some grapes, and has given them a bowl of feed under the deck so they don't have to go ALL THE WAY to the run to eat, so it's not like they're enduring a major hardship.)

Stew with dumplings for supper tonight!

Also be careful of feeding poultry grapes...they can clog crops.
I cut them in half (time consuming) easier to smash the grapes & then feed them to the birds.

Anyone know what happens to a broody who never gets eggs or chicks?

I think it depends on the broody. I've had silkies set nothing for 6 weeks then get up and go back to normal. The silkie I have that was sitting bedding decided to get up fully today. She set 24 days and decided nothing was happening and that magical chicks didn't appear. She's off helping with the 6 and 7 week old chicks now. They were taking advantage of her sitting anyway when they wanted a warm up and their moms were busy.
