Quote: What the heck?? Dang it!!! Well glad you got to hang with your peeps, but, yea, wish it would have turned out more lucrative!
Yeah it will get better as people get used to the new location. And when the date is settled.

No, after further inspection of the fridge, it would have cost more money to put new fans in it, and besides, it was working great as a fridge so we are using for such!! But, if anyone has a better idea of how to make it a bator, I will gladly bring it to them so they can have at it!!

Omg!!! those are all very cute babies! Ok, I didn't understand what you said about not having a positive outcome?? As long as the chickens are bigger than the cats, it's not a problem! I have 5 outside cats that were raised with my chickens, the chickens put them in their place fast! It's best when the kittens are small and the chickens are bigger, now, I have had chicks, and ducklings, for over three years now and my cats don't bother them. In fact I find the cats, stealin chicken food!! I of course would keep an eye on the kittens when they are in the pen, but, I don't have rats, mice, moles gophers, ect! Just MHO.....

You have a great point..... I was worried that the Roosters might hurt the kittens... Not so much the Cornish X they are sweet butterballs. But in my other pens there is a very protective Roo. BUT I do plan on having lots of chicks ... so it would be good for the cats to be friendly with them. Im gonna have to make some supervised play times with some of the chickens..... :)

To all the new people!

Oh, man, the fish setups make me drool. We don't have room for any tanks right now. I love waterplants. The fish are only decorations for the plants when I had tanks.

I hope everyones bad boy roosters get their heads straight. We know what happens to ones who don't.

Such cute pictures. All the babies, human, chicken, and otherwise.

We've thought about getting a cat, but think a ratter dog will be easier to deal with. I contacted the breed association for help finding a breeder of working schipperkes but haven't heard back. I don't know if they didn't take me seriously or what. I know finding one that raises them to work as ratters is probably not going to happen. Both of the ones we had still had good instincts. I'm not really into terrier dogs.

Doesn't mean we still might not end up with a cat or two. We like cats.

That's too bad, it's really sad that people don't breed animals for what they are intended, yea, so people aren't all going to want a dog that rats but, just like stock dogs, and hunting dogs, when you use an animal for what it is intended, or close to it, you are helping the dog. It keeps them fulfilled and occupied, less chance for getting into trouble, or destruction.

I know I've shared this picture before but, I just thought I'd show it again, and dang it if I could have taken another today with this same cat laying among the ducks,

She was just a kitten then, and here is my male, brother to Kali

That was just about an hour ago!

I did not know that.....and I could hit Molbak's on the way home.

Have you ever been to Flower World? just slightly north-east of Woodinville Twice the size of Molbaks, doesn't have the gifty areas but is all nursery stock...really awesome. Best to google directions but just off highway 525......eliz

Flower World is a very short distance from me.  Since mom really likes plants, I tend to go when I need a gift for her.  I agree, it is a nice place.

My favorite out that way is Cottage Creek Nursery, on Avondale Rd. Haven't been there for ages, not exactly short of plants, more short of places to plant them.

I am busy here: got my HD list filled and a bunch of other stuff done, need to go hang out another load of laundry and figure out where I need the package of cheap asphalt shingles put that's both out of the way and easily accessible to places where I'll be using them. Decisions, decisions.

And one more thing to share, apparently my husband found a website to help people get off the grid. I didn't even know he had ordered it till it came today, for those of you who may want to take selfsufficentcy to the next level,
what I call "stick it to the man" ism LOL
it's called
power 4 Patriots
the kit shows you how to make your own solar panels, and wind turbine for really cheap!!
Anyway I guess the website is www.power4patriots.com
guess you can even buy heritage and hierloom seeds, ( he bought some and paid too much) LOL!
but, it might be something someone could be interested in, so that's why I thought I'd share it.
jeez AGAIN I forgot the spell check!!

Thanks: they're my babies!

It's been a pretty good year, all told, as long as you look at the local conditions and not the market as a whole: the drought in the midwest is going to depress feeder prices until next spring, and even if we have an open winter and can get away with just feeding hay, we need to sell some calves this end of weaning to pay for vet supplies, fuel, grain for the bulls, and so on.

Well, I sure haven't figured out, how to do the quote thing yet, in all the time it's been here, I tried it once and I got lost some where!!  LOL!
and yes I went to my profile and made sure the thingy wasn't or was checked which ever it was, ( I read it many posts back when some one asked)

Anyway, I know I'm like almost three weeks late but, I finally got my garlic in the ground for the first time in my life!  Now lets see if something grows! LOL!
also, and yes I need my head examined, some one posted what size eggs and how many a year that certain breeds lay?
was SLW on that list?? Are they a med or large brown egg layer?? I know what your all gonna say!!       :smack

I was doing a friend a favor, he had to sell his chickens and this gals were already laying so I said what the heck, they are in quarantine right now, they are very healthy the little red , ( supposed to be Bantam RIR hen)  got picked on so her head is growing back feathers.  they will go out with the other layers in another week.

Wyandottes lay a barely USDA large egg; SLWs are supposed to be the most dependable layer of the bunch. Those are really nicely marked!

I have an apple tree in the backyard that has gone CRAZY!! We have so many apples we don't know what to do with them all! The horse and goat are sick of them, we have plenty, and they are up for grabs. Well-established tree produces medium juicy red/green apples. Not sure of the variety. For all of you livestock owners, there are TONS of fallen apples on the ground that would make a tasty, FREE treat for them! Give me a call on my cell, two53-two41-6149. No emails as I don't want to spend too much energy on this!! Just give me a call! You will need to bring a sturdy stepstool or ladder, and know you are picking at your own risk!
