Hello,
My chicken coop has a small attached run and some wasps have decided to take up residence in a corner of it. How can I safely get rid of the wasps without harming the chickens? I don't really want to spray any chemicals because I don't want the chickens to suffer from it. Any suggestions?

First of all, you should do it in the evening hours. Night time is when the wasps sleep and they have poor vision at night, so they might not see you to chase you! Also, your chickens will be in the coop getting ready to sleep.

Take 1 quart of water and mix in 3 tablespoons of dish washing soap. Use a good spray bottle with a strong stream, or borrow your kids squirt gun, the super soaker works best. Fill up the squirt gun, stand back and soak the nest with your soap and water mixture. This mixture will kill the wasps, but be sure to check the nest the next day to make sure no wasp escaped your aim! If the nest is clear, knock it down.

can you use fire? wait until after dark, get some newspaper and roll it into a roll as long as possible. light the end, when it flames stick it close to the nest. the flame will burn the wings off the wasp. knock the nest down. leave the nest for the chicks. they will love the larvae. got rid of 3 this way and my chicks loved the left over nest.

Soaking it should make them vacate ! They only build where they know that the nest won't get wet .But as was stated , at night you could get a plastic bag and with a pair of gloves just wrap the plastic bag around the nest and then pull it off into the bag and distroy it , I have done this as well and it works just fine , just wear leather gloves

stating fluid will drop them where they fly. also carb cleaner will do the same thing. starting fluid will evaporate real fast, where carb cleaner will linger. As stated above go after them at night.

I have wasps in my chicken coop. They don't bother the chickens, but they are starting to bother me. I'm allergic, and don't need to get stung. Been thinking of trying this method, but wondering if the soap is safe for the chickens? I'm using sand in the coop, so it's going to get wet and soapy if I do this.

My dh had a great idea last summer. We had a large nest of nasty ground bees (and I'm allergic too). During the night he put out the wet/dry vac with the hose just at the entrance, turned it on, but didn't plug it in. Come morning and the bees woke up all he did was plug it into the garage. Every bee that came in or out of the nest got sucked up into the vac. We drove the car to the nest (with the windows rolled up, of course) and sat there and watched them... and laughed and laughed. It worked beautifully and got every last bee. You may want to tack down the hose somehow so it doesn't move when you turn it on.

I bet that was fun to watch. I've never had to deal with ground bees but I've heard of people using gasoline, and pouring it right into the entrance of their nest and having good results.
