Wasp nest...

They are beneficial as pollinators as well as preying on soft bodied insects such as flies and bugs that can hurt plants. They are on an outside window at the far end of the porch. The porch itself is surrounded by lilac bushes, and right now there is no reason to go back there. The lilacs need pruned, but that isn't high priority to me. The only one in my family who ever had an allergic reaction is my daughter, when she was about 10 she had a reaction after getting multiple stings. She doesn't live here any more and rarely comes to visit (she lives 4 hours away) so she is in no danger from them. If they were right by the main entrance to the house, they would be gone already but I don't think they will hurt anything where they are. Now if they would just eat mosquitos...

Wow!! that's pretty neat! as long as they can't burrow into the side of your house, are posing no danger to anyone, i'd have to let them go, myself.

this is a neat science experiment with no effort involved

considering any sort of sting would kill me (epi pen would kill me too btw) I kill all stinging bugs..... Bugbomb, spray from 40 feet away, smoke it, spray again with wasp/hornet killer and call it good.

Ever wonder if you are one sting away from dying?

Sounds like my shellfish allergy, if I even smell fried shrimp or buttery king crab legs I can feel my airway closing off...

Anyhoo, about the only stinging bug I don't kill is honey bees- mostly because they are great and all that, but also because they can only sting once.

if you'll read earlier in this thread, i did state the dangers of bees stings. i stated here that as long as they are not posing any danger, it is neat.

he's not allergic, i'm assuming based on his statements that no one else would be subject to going into that area, including himself. why not watch it? what a neat perspective.

you can't kill all the bugs. even if you destroyed this nest, i'm sure there is another with a couple hundred feet/yards

Because of the lilac bushes, I would probably need to be within 2 feet of the nest to spray it so it's probably safer to leave it anyhow. The last time I got a bee sting (honey bee), I was a passenger in a vehicle and it came in the window. It just left a little red dot. I used to swell up from them when I was little, but I got stung a lot while growing up (my father had bee hives) and eventually quit swelling. I also got to the point where I quit getting poison ivy and would walk through the stuff barefoot to prove it (young and stupid). Honestly? DH and I went shopping today, and riding with him is way more dangerous than a wasp in my opinion...

My last sentence was supposed to sound ironic (as its what I wonder as I pop benedryl and hope for the best) but the internet is fickle to convey meaning or intent sometimes.

i've never been involved where someone has had to have an emergency tracheostomy, but it has come close a time or two, staved off by nebulized and injected epi. the trach kit was opened and sterile field was in place, though, doc was ready to go

I walked into my bathroom today and there was a paperwasp flying around in there. I was going to mash it but decided to leave it alone till I can catch it and let it go. My husband thinks I'm weird.
