Well, with the 10 chicks here, and the other new ones coming tomorrow, I thought Id try my handy work out and build an addition onto the coop.

My brainy idea was to build a brooder attached to the coop sharing a chicken wire wall so that new chicks and older chicks can become friends.

Well, got it built, and 4 hours later it looks just dandy. Pretty good carpentry, If I dont say so myself! But the problem is that I could have waited because with it chilly outside again (in the low 50s today) I cant get the temp much over 70 in it, so I cant put the babies out there anyway.

Man....that erks me! Now I've got the cardboard box brooder in the house divided in half so I can keep the pullets apart from the Cornish, since some of the pullets are also white. Now they dont have nearly as much room as they would outside, but I cant risk it because its too cold and they'd never make it long anyway. So....I'm back to square one with babies in the house again.

On a side note, I've built the additional brooder so that it can double as a breeder pen too. I'm trying to think a little ahead...lol

Thanks for lettin me vent this. My DH is gone and no one else listens to my babble about chickens! Thanks guys!

That's why we are here! So rant away...

Don't think of it as wasted time! The weather will behave better soon, and it sounds like you've made a great brooder next to your coop! Great job, pat yourself on the back!!

Good job, wish i was as talented as you are with carpentry skills. I can't even hammer a nail straight.LOL It will be warm before you know it, and the babies will get used to their new extended chicken family.
