Hello all, we have 8 chickens and I'm looking for new ideas to cut down on feed that gets pushed onto the ground. I have a 4" PVC pipe feeder that can hold a whole bag of feed, but the problem is the chicks just peck it all out onto the ground. Here is a picture of our set up. The only thing I can think of is putting a cap with a hole big enough for their little necks. What are your thoughts. BTW, I found the PVC idea on line and modified it to the current configuration.

I have a “zero waste” feeder. Rubbermaid tote - cut 4 inch holes through side - insert 4 inch PVC 90 degree neck and caulk! You will have to cut about 1/2 inch off of PVC neck about half way around so the feed flows under where the girls can eat it.

I usually see that type of feeder with a Y on the bottom, not the fitting that you are using. With the Y they have to stick their head in further, so less waste. You can also add a small piece to extend the Y, if they are still billing feed out.

I personally use no waste feeders with 90 Degree elbows and don't have any issues with feed being wasted.

All, thank you for your help and ideas. I have a new idea with your brain storming and will post what I make afterwards. Thanks again
