Wasting WAAAAAAY too much feed!!!!!!

I bought this feeder at Southern States but it is also available from amazon.com at this url: http://www.amazon.com/Little-Giant-...1371607480&sr=8-1&keywords=little+giant+phf11. if the url doesn't work look for it under little giant 11 lbs plastic hanging poultry feeder phf11. I have used fit for both crumbles and pellets and they are unable to bill out either. I only have to fill it about once a week for my 9 chickens and no food is left on the ground to attract the rats.

This is what I do for 10 or less chicks from day old to 3 months old. Its simple and cheep. Just take a feeder, put duct tape over the holes. The cut a upside down T in center. Then take your finger and fold back the edges to where its slightly larger than your fingers. This one I made up yesterday for my 4- 3 week old guineas. That's why I only have 3 holes cut open. No wast at all!

for my feeders, there are no holes on the sides. They are just plastic shoe boxes with screws drilled through the bottom to attach to wood skis. About 6 birds can gather around to eat at one time. I fill the feed about 1-2 inches deep and the boxes are about 4 inches deep. this means they have to reach in to eat, so when they 'shake' the food drops back into the feeder. The Roo has tried a couple times to stand on the edge of the box, but it's pretty thin plastic and it must not be comfortable. They don't tip them because of the wood skis. I've had them now for nearly 6 months and there is no mess, no loss of feed. The boxes come with lids so when the birds go into the coops at night (25 birds/2 coops), I snap the lid on the boxes. In the morning, I add feed to bring it up to 2 inches or so. I have a barn stall full of failed bird feeders - but these 99 cent plastic boxes and a few scraps of wood have solved out wasted feed issue.

I am having the same problem. I have a hanging feeder that I raised to shoulder height of chickens and didn't make a difference wasted feed every where.
Me too. I have raise my feeder and I still see the feed under the wire. You don't have any idea how much feed u have wasted until you can see it under the brooder. I bet for every 10lb I feed there is 1lb under the brooder.
