water ballons and chickens?

my kids want to have their friends over for a water balloon war. I am worried that if we don't get all the balloons picked up the chickens will might try to eat them. I know they make biodegradable balloons, maybe I could try those?

We have had water balloon fights before, we just limit the area and try to pick everything up. So far no problems

Update: Although my king roo Elvis will attack anything in my hand and anything that's red, he refused to go for the balloons, They were all scared of them.

my kids were out blowing bubbles and a few drifted into the run... you would have thought they were being attacked by aliens!!!
