I think a few of my ducks that I just adopted have water belly. One of them already did but the others just suddenly developed larger abdomens within the last few days out of the blue. I am reading up a bunch and figuring out if there’s anything I can do for them BUT in the meantime.. can we still eat the duck eggs we are receiving or does this symptom render our eggs inedible?
I don’t know which ones are laying currently as they are still fairly new to me and I’ve not caught anyone in the act of laying yet. But at least 2 ducks are laying and I don’t want to waste the eggs if we can eat them but also don’t want to feed them to my family if there is any concern that the eggs would be bad.
I have no idea what the cause is, since these were adopted, it’s possible they just weren’t in great health and have heart or liver damage. I feed them high quality feed and they forage. I don’t think any are dealing with internal egg laying issues as their tummies are soft and feel like a water bed, not lumpy. I haven’t drained fluid yet so I don’t know what color it is.
thanks for any advice and particularly on the eating of eggs!
