Water Belly?

Can I ask what happened to your hen? @shakin_the_trees

I have a hen acting exactly the way you described. Supposedly broody, jiggle stomach, swollen/red areas, etc.

@Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive @MysteryChicken @azygous @EggSighted4Life, are you able to help us?
Photos would be helpful.

Jiggle stomach doesn't sounds like the symptom of water belly (Ascites). Fluid in the abdomen would be tight light a drum, not jiggly.

What's swollen/red? The vent, her keel, abdomen below the vent between her legs?

What's supposedly broody? Is she broody or lethargic?

I sprayed them for mites. And have added probiotics to the feed. I Keep an eye her, but she has been acting completely normal otherwise. I think she does have acites, but I am not confident enough to try to drain it until it’s a life or death situation.

It feels like there’s lots of fluid in her stomach, and yes, she is lethargic.

The stomach is just a little red, and near her vent it looks to be swollen/red.

When I said “supposedly broody”, I meant that she makes broody sounds, she likes to stay in the nest box all day, but when I take her off, she just slowly walks away. When I lift her (actually there is 2 of them from what I can tell) I can feel the fluid in her stomach.

I’ll try getting pics later.

She walks around fine but she clicks like a broody.
But she doesn’t sit on the eggs for long. I think she just goes to the nest boxes to rest and get away from the roos.

I’ll be getting rid of 2 of the roos that constantly torture her and the rest of the flock. :rolleyes:

She may be playing broody.
Feather loss if likely from being plucked out. Skin looks ok and not irritated.
If she's eating/drinking and moving about ok, then I'd just monitor her.
