I have a hen that has been somewhat broody, but other than that acting completely normal. I was thinking my chickens might have mites or lice and did a night time check tonight. I think she has an infection of some sort or acites?! She has swelling to her belly, her feathers are all missing, and the skin is red .The swollen area is somewhat jiggly like a water sac. I noticed a little bit of poop on the feathers, but no pus or foul smell. I think the actual vent looks okay, but above the vent it is some what swollen as well. Its just one thing after another with my girls. I just want to cry!

Can I ask what happened to your hen? @shakin_the_trees

I have a hen acting exactly the way you described. Supposedly broody, jiggle stomach, swollen/red areas, etc.

@Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive @MysteryChicken @azygous @EggSighted4Life, are you able to help us?
I sprayed them for mites. And have added probiotics to the feed. I Keep an eye her, but she has been acting completely normal otherwise. I think she does have acites, but I am not confident enough to try to drain it until it’s a life or death situation.

The best I could do.

She walks around fine but she clicks like a broody.
But she doesn’t sit on the eggs for long. I think she just goes to the nest boxes to rest and get away from the roos.

I’ll be getting rid of 2 of the roos that constantly torture her and the rest of the flock. :rolleyes:
She may be playing broody.
Feather loss if likely from being plucked out. Skin looks ok and not irritated.
If she's eating/drinking and moving about ok, then I'd just monitor her.

I'm so sorry you have problems with your hen. How old is your hen? Is her posture normally too?
Would it be possible to upload some pictures of the problem area?
@Wyorp Rock would you be so kind to come over and share your thoughts?

The pics I were able to take aren’t the best. But here’s what I got.
