Scuba is at it again, getting herself into trouble. Tonight I got home and they were awfully loud out in the duck house, i went to investigate and found Scuba stuck in the 3 gallon rubber water bucket with a 250w heater in the bottom. Her feathers were beat up, saturated and bloody. I brought her in and gave her a betadine/epsom
Salt bath in the scrub sink. I am not really sure how to treat this, she’s soaked, so she’s inside for the time being. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It’s been extremely cold this year so they haven’t had their pool open, and after a hawk attack they haven’t set foot outside in 4-5 weeks.

I am not a medical expert but I think what you are doing is right. Those bloody spots look like where she lost feathers so preventing infection makes sense. I also would get her dry as quickly as you can and keep her inside. I am wondering if a little sugar (teaspoon) in her water might be a good idea since she used up a lot of energy trying to get out and you want to prevent shock.

I could certainly try that. Thanks!

How is she today?
She’s looking better, clean and dry anyway. She doesn’t seem to be very perky, in fact I came downstairs at about 4am and checked on her, she had her bill down and didn’t seem to be able to get it picked up. I didn’t have peas, so I gave her some corn with B complex. This morning she’s not moving great and is doing the hurt/frightened nose snort they do. She has always been somewhat a special needs duck, she doesn’t move very fast or well, and she tends to get dirty and not be able to get herself clean. She also has always had explosive diarrhea, she’s 5 now, and has since the get go.. i mean literally, from across the yard I have heard/seen it.. if I could record it I could sell it to fart machine manufacturers. I am leaving her in the house today and will leave water and food. Its going yo be warm for the rest of the week, so I will see what that looks like depending on how she is this evening.
