Last night, we assembled one of these using a plastic storage bin, instead of a bucket.

It is leaking ever so slightly around the insert. Is it safe to use caulk on the inside of the tub, around the insert? I don't want any strange chemicals leeching into the water. For that matter, I guess I should ask if a plastic storage bin is safe to keep water in. It's the standard clear bin with a white lid that you can find at WalMart.

Thanks for your help!

I have used Caulk on mine. I used the Indoor/Outdoor kind. Never seemed to bother them. (Just let it dry a couple days before filling it up with water)

Pipe dope is what your plumber would use in your home so it is safe.

Thanks Chad-O, I will keep an eye out for that. It seems to have stopped leaking now. Maybe everything just needed to settle in....who knows.

What exactly is you made their?
It is a nipple waterer. I purchased the assembly because I wasn't sure what I would need, but I'm sure it would be less expensive to purchase the parts seperately. Here's a photo of the assembly pieces.

I connected them with a hose, and placed the assembly faucet thingy in the bottom of a plastic storage container.
