Water Candling

Hello all! My girls and I are trying an experiment of hatching an egg with a heat lamp in our very humid home.

The egg has been sitting for about 12-14 days, and when I slowly roll the egg in my hand, I feel a hard mass move in the egg.

I tried candling the egg but because it is such a dark, olive green, I can see absolutely nothing.

I tried water candling and the egg slightly floated and slowly moved around the bowl without me touching it.

How would I know if this egg is rotten or if there is development? I know it’s not likely, but I have heard of it happening.

Could the mass in the egg be the rotten bit?

If the eggshell is intact, it is unlikely that the egg is rotten as there is a natural barrier that (mostly) prevents bacteria from entering. Eggs kept intact and unwashed can usually go a couple months before rotting.

What is the temperature and humidity of the area surrounding the egg?

Can you try to shine a flashlight through the air cell/fat end of the egg in a dark room and get a clear picture?

Temp is 99.3, not sure about humidity. We had watched a few videos about hatching eggs with unconventional methods and wanted to try it out. We have been rotating it 3 times a day

I’ve tried every light that we have had and nothing will penetrate the shell. I can’t see anything

I had seen many water candling videos and had no idea it was not okay to do. Won’t do it again.

Do you have a calibrated thermometer in your makeshift incubator area?

Do you know what the humidity is in the area?
It is extremely easy to overheat and kill eggs with the heat lamp.
