Water death

It's fairly big, fits about a gallon or more of water. She could of gotten out of it. I've never seen a chicken get into the water. But she was laying in it with her head up

If it's only a gallon or so I doubt the water had anything at all to do with her death. As azygous said, that's just where she happened to collapse. Sorry you lost her.

sometimes they die suddenly - but to die *in* the Water bowl is certainly unexpected and surprising. It is possible she could have moved around during the night with enough moonlight, if there’s a window or similar. My coop stays fairly dark unless light is coming in the east facing window, including moonlight. Although their roosts are not in line with the window, the nest boxes and the water are in line with the window.

we had a 1 year old die mid-step in the yard, so death was instantaneous from some internal problem we had not been aware of.
