Please with Winter knocking on our back door I started up the homemade water heater system. It uses a cinder block and light bulb.

The question I have is how deep does the drinking water need to be to wash the ducks sinus. I use about a 8" deep water container but when it's on top of the cinder block it pretty high up. I put a half high concrete step to it but was wondering if I should lower the depth but increase the width instead. If I increase the width it would only be 3-4" is that deep enough?

Hi, Denise,

8 inches is probably a good depth for an adult duck to be able to wash his or her entire head in. My runners' bills are probably 3 inches long, their heads another two. I have not measure them, this is just an estimate.

Do the ducks use what you have set up? It is mostly up to them. But I would stick with the deeper waterer.
