Water for poop and loose of feathers around the bottom

Hello my two year old chicken Salt seems to have watery poop and she is loosing the feathers around her rear end. She is fine in herself. Eating and drinking. Bright red comb. I have tried using DE in case worms and have had her on verm-ex for the last three days but not making any difference. Does anyone know what is wrong with her. Thanks,

Are you in the US? Can you get a picture of her vent area and one of droppings? I would clean off any droppings. Could other chickens be pecking her vent area? Are they able to get outside and free range? Do they have plenty of room inside their coop? Is she laying eggs? How does her crop feel? Can you feel again early morning before she eats and drinks to make sure that it empties overnight? DE will not work for worming. When worms are an issue, I would use Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer given orally. I will give dosages if you need them.

Hello, thanks for responding. I am in the UK.

The droppings are just liquid with a few peanuts of poop. Just clear water. I can take a photo tomorrow. I have had some layer pellets arrive today with fluvenbet in them for worming so going to start them on those tomorrow.

They were free ranging and they have a coop just for three hens. I have been expanding it today as we have had a letter from the gov telling us we are no longer allowed to let our birds out as we have Avarian Bird Flu down the road from us. I have checked the symptoms for Bird Flu and they don't seem to match. I have searched for a chicken vet in the area but no luck there.

She is just doing massive noisy water poos.

I thought that DE could be used to worm as I have been watching chicken videos online where they suggest that. Or is it only preventative? I am relatively new to chickens so I am learning and not had this problem before.

I am not sure if she is laying as I am not sure which chickens are laying in the coop at the moment out of the three. My bantam is going through her moult for the winter month so I hadn't noticed that Salt had lost her feathers from behind until yesterday. Salt is a Copper Black Maran.

I washed all her behind and cleaned her up as the feather that were left were pretty dirty. I noticed that their are new feathers under the skin coming through. I haven't noticed them pecking her and been out there for the last two days with them all the time extending the run.

She did go through a broody stage and I thought that it was that to start with (I read they can hold on and then let rip when them leave the nesting box) so I kept putting her outside but she seems to have got over that now.

She isn't displaying any other signs of illness and clucking about with the other two hens. She is eating and drinking quite happily. I haven't noticed them pecking her and been out there for the last two days with them all the time extending the run.

I will check her crop tomorrow although I haven't done that before so that will be new to me. What should it feel like?

Feel all of your chickens’ crops to notice what they are like during the day, when they go from empty and flat to rounded and firm by evening at roost time. In the morning before eating, if they are full and hard or puffy, they may have a crop disorder. DE is sometimes used to help prevent mites in places where insecticides are prohibited. It does not work against an infestation, or for worms inside the body. There is a lot of disinformation about DE, and it can be hard on the eyes and breathing of you and the chickens. Chickens will sometimes pick at vents for various reasons, especially if bored or crowded.

Morning, again thanks so much for answering me. I checked all their crops (the right hand side of the breast bone?) this morning and they all feel the same. Empty so have just given them the layer pellets with the worming medicine so I will see if that help. I will take some photos later. Thank you.

Hello, sorry for delay in getting back to you. Have been working hard on my chicken coop and been doing some investigations and learning how to check the check the crop, I cannot see any difference in her crop to the other chickens and popped to see a neighbour today who showed me on her chickens what I was looking for but all seems fine there. They are also been on worming meds now for two days but she is the same. Healthy, but doing big loose watery poos. I noticed today her feathers are coming back around her bottom but her poo is the same. It might be because I cleaned her up and used some antiseptic creams. I watched the other two chickens but they are not pecking at her. I managed to get some photos today but I couldn't keep her still enough to take a pic of her vent. It looked quite healthy to me. I am enclosing a photo. It seems like she is pooing out clear water with just a few bits of solid poo in them. I have traweled my chicken books but cannot find anything wrong.
