There is no comparison, this thermostat beats any wafer, any water heater thermostat and any thermostat used in styrobators.
Using this one in my home made bator my temperature fluctuated back and forth .5 - .7 F and most importantly hold steady in room with daily swings of 10 Degrees.

Wafer needs frequent replacements and is affected by everchanging athmospheric pressure.

Anoyjer great feature about repti 500 is it has a probe you can insert in a wiggler if you use one, or you can place the probe on the top of the eggs, or any spot you choose.

The whole thermostat is outside a bator with nice and easy to adjust dial.

There is no better thermostat for less than a hundred bucks, and it is absolutely sufficient for incubating purposes.

Yea, that thermostat would work too if you are using less than 500 watts. I use 1800 watts so I have not got to test one. It does seem to be a good product from a good company but it has not been out that long so its reliability is still yet to be proven.
 
Zoo Med Laboratories Repti REMTE Sensor - RT-500R is been out for more than 4 years, I have mine 3 years works perfect.

So let's not split hair here, reliabity is not an issue. You have reliability issues with wafers and most styrobator thermostats

despite they've been around for years.

Wafers need to be often replaced and also they fluctuate widely when weather changes.

LG thermostat is peace of garbage.

Also how many people besides commercial hatcheries uses incubators consuming 1800 Watts a piece?

Do you have walk-in bator?

As for me mentioning the 500 watt max, I though it may be useful information. Yes my 1800 Watts is more than most but people build incubators in the 500 to a thousand watt range all the time. I don't know what the OP is building.

heat source cost me less than $10 an uses less than that same $10 to run a month. I think I'm a bit tall to stand in it.
 
I've done the water heater thermostat and wish I had never tried it. I would have much been better off buying the wafer. The ether in the wafer expands and contracts much quicker than the metal tab in a water heater thermostat, thus providing less temp flux. Water heater thermostats rust up quickly in an incubator causing them to stick. I never had a successful hatch with those. I switched to a wafer and started having 90-100% hatches. Don't fool yourself like me, get a wafer. Thats my 2 - cents.
