Water nipples

I use the letter R drill bit and tap the hole because I'm use thick walled material that I screw the nipple into. If you are using a thin walled material, you can go a hair smaller on the hole size.

Well how about that.... Guess I just wasn't in with the new stuff LOL... It is all good cause we are using them now.

I don't train my birds to use the nipple. They know that right after I take away the old waterer. However, now I am thinking about giving up the nipples. First, they waste water. I only need to give two bottles (24OZ) of water to my quails. While after I used the nipples, I have to add water to the bucket every day. They used 2/3 of the water in my 3 gallons bucket. 2 gallons a day. That is too much than before. Second, the coop get messy when using the nipple. I worry about them in the winter.

Strange. Very strange. You have a leak or something else is happening. There is no way you should go from 24 oz. per day to 2 gallons per day with the same number of flock.
If this were the case no one would be using nipples at all, and they are being used by every commercial grower I know of. They save water, not waste it, so you have
some kind of systemic problem there.​

They do quite well on nipples from day one to the end. They never have anything else.

You have one to three problems;
Water column (pressure) is to high.
The height of the nipples is not correct.
You have a high flow nipple. (Did you get them from me?)

In any case the bird is not able to drink as much water as is coming out of the nipple.

Bought the one from amazon...love it! It's already assembled and was cheaper than doing itself. $16.99 came with 2gallon bucket and four nipples already attached.

I wish I'd known a preassembled option was available before I got mine. It'll take weeks for dh to finally get the holes drilled... not to mention installing a beam to hang it from (but I'd need that either way).
