Hi,

My chicks are getting bigger all the time and soon they will be chickens! This question refers to when I move them out to the coop. Here is the question: Do I have to refresh the water EVERY day?

We just make sure they have water. Usually we have to refill every 2-3 days. The water shouldn’t be getting dirty, but over time the waterer gets kind of gross, so we wash is usually once a month or whenever we think it’s getting bad. Honestly we should wash it way more often, but that’s just not how it tends to work out for us...

It really depends on the style of waterer you use as well as the size. It is certainly possible to create a setup that will provide your flock with adequate clean water for days. There are some good ideas in the articles section on this site.

Depends on what kind of waterer you have and how fast it gets dirty.
You should check it everyday.
I use this one(in winter mode with heater and insulation) and just top it off every day.

I refill maybe once a week. Honestly never cleaned out the waterer other than a quick rinse as we've never had issues with bugs, algae, etc.

I have a Galvanized waterer that lasts a week. I lift and tilt daily to remove hay or feed kicked in trough. . GC

It depends on the waterer you will be using. I like using horizontal nipples, it keeps the water clean 24/7. No shavings or dirt to clean out like the traditional waterers, if it gets kicked up. I rinse the five gallon out about 4 - 5 times a year and the 14 gal blue drum maybe 2 -3 times last year. I don't have a problem with algae building up, the water inside stays clean.
