water question

Immediately. For best results, give 8% sugar water (1.5 cups sugar to 1 gallon water) for a quick and easy energy source. Any kind of sugar works. Also, give feed 3 - 5 hours later. Make sure it is Starter feed, and that the temp is 95 degrees. Good luck!

My chick just hatched when do I pit in the water?
I have my water (with sav a chick in it) and my starter crumbles in the brooder before my chicks go in. When you move the chicks to the brooder dip the tip of the chicks' beak in the water, make sure you do not get water in their nose. (This is supposed to help guide them to the water quicker.) You may want to have either clean rocks or marbles in the water to keep chicks from drowning especially if it is an open dish.

Also, if you have just a few chicks, don't mix up a gallon of sugar or vitamin water, mix up a cup and use a small waterer. Clean the waterer at LEAST once a day, it gets nasty/slimy fast and you want to ensure your little ones have clean water at all times.

OMG, I think I have to clean mine out every couple hours! I even tried to put a plate under it to keep it up off the bedding and have a larger area free of bedding, and they still manage to gum it up!!! The heat from the light makes it slimy quicker as well.
