I have an open tub of water that my hens drink from and my duck can submerge his head and drink from.

We have a surprise chick that’s hatched and it will be able to jump into the water tub before long and not be able to get out.

What are some safe solutions y’all use that work for everyone?

I don’t have ducks but I’ve had broody hens hatch with the flock. Consider:
1.Depending on the size of the tub you can fill it with clean rocks.
2.Downsize the tub and use a poultry fount for ducks and fill the reservoir with rocks.
3. Separate the chick and give it a chick waterer. If the mother is brooding the chick she may lead the chick to the main waterer anyway, but may be worth a try.

We have both ducks and chickens. For the ducks, they have a 3-gallon heated bucket (Wisconsin). The chickens all have nipple waterers. (Two coops, three growout pens, and four breeder pens.) The chicks and chickens all use those. They have crystal clean water that way.
