I was so proud of myself...made a bucket waterer and feeder from instructions/plans from BYC. You know, the ones with round trays attached to the bottom of a 5 gallonbucket...the holes in the bottom outside edge of the bucket are lower than the edge of the tray which should ideally give enough pressure to allow the bucket to fill it when the water level of the tray drops below the level of the holes. It never stopped filling!! over the edge of the tray the water spilled (not over the top of the bucket). It is a hanging style but was unable to get the suspension (chain) centered so it was lilting to one side...

What is the best way to solve this problem? I will try to get a pic up soon of the waterer in question. Thanks!!

Not sure since I use a plumbed-in waterer, but I think the tilt is your problem. As long as the water is running out of the basin, more is going to flow down to fill it. You need to make sure that it's level, maybe by placing it on a solid support? I have mine sitting on an upside-down clay flower pot. You could use bricks, or a bucket . . . whatever you have that's the right size. Or work at getting it to hang level - but if it gets to swinging you'll have drippage again. Good luck!

If your filling the bucket, how can it be airtight? I can make it airtight AFTER it's full but not before or during... any suggestions?

For the waterer the holes have to be near the top of the bucket so that you can fill it, put the lid on, then flip the whole thing over. If your holes are at the bottom of the bucket you need a way to plug them while you're filling it up, then put the lid on and remove the plugs.
