Waterer - Problem with pooping (chickens - not the waterer)

I ended up cutting out a piece of plywood the diameter of the waterer and hanging it a few inches above from an eye hook in the center of the circle. This way there is no room to sit on top of the waterer and when they jump on top of the plywood it tilts. So far it has worked. Thanks for the help.

I have a problem with my chickens scratching debris in their food and water. I found an ad for a stand on which to place the water and food.

I put my waters on the outside of the runs. I just make a small hole for them to stick out their heads and drink. Baby chicks, I do the same. On very young chicks, the water is on bricks.

That would work in the runs. But what about in the coop?

I guess--keep it up high and make sure they can't sit on top of it. I clean the water out 2X a day and sometimes more. Poop happens. Got to stay 2 steps ahead at all times.
