Waterers - Autos

I recently got one of those and I really like it!
which one? The amazon or ebay one?

I just bought one with horizontal nipples - and a bucket with a float that can connect to the hose...
Hopefully it will work

Now I need to figure out a better feeder - mine take it and spread it everywhere and so much gets wasted... a lot gets wasted

Any advice on that? I stopped free feeding them because of this unless I am gone... I put their amounts in pans now for the day and give them a bit more and scraps at night.. but I would like to go back to a free feeder

I bought one of the auto water kits from http://www.autowaterkit.com/models.html
I got the one that you have to fill because I don't have a running water connection with the cups. I am very happy with it! I am working on a better feeding option too! Suggestions are very welcomed!!

Are you handy with a whole saw and working with pvc? If so, you can get a 5 gallon bucket and a large 90degree elbow and make a feeder that matches your drinker! There's a thread here on BYC that shows you how to do it.

Can you post the thread? Please and thank you

The Auto Watering system that Rich sells on ebay is the best way to go for people that don't have the skills or tools to build their own. It is a simple hook up to a water hose and hang the pipe with the nipples installed. I do believe even those with no mechanical skills at all could follow the instructions and get this hooked up and working.

If you don't have the skills and knowledge to build your own then you may have to spend just a little more money to buy something that is ready to go right out of the box. The system that Rich sells is not that expensive if that is the course that you have to take. It's a **** nice setup as well!!

Rationed feeding is best IMO. Your birds are less likely to waste feed if they're only getting it once or twice a day. BUT, it is time-consuming and thus free-feeding solves that problem. We've found that if you make it difficult for a chicken to flick or bill the food around, this solves a lot of waste problems. For example, stretch a piece of chicken fencing over the feed. They will only be able to pick food from a hole in the fencing and will be less likely to toss feed around. Or don't feed them (other than free-ranging) for 2-3 days. Let them remember what it is like to go without feed. Perhaps then they will not look to the free-feeder as the magical bottomless dish of tasty feed.

I am going in circles with watering systems.
The plan is to have a line plumbed to the coop however - trying to ensure its worth it and what system to hook up to the line/hose once it is there.

I have about 20 birds. I currently use two galvanized waterers and fill them up twice a week.

Everything I run across is for low pressure systems or too open that I think it would be messy.. I don't want anything that they can get on top of and poop in the water. I have two hens that like to sit on my metal feeders and poop in the water... UGH!

Ideas?

I am a bit "lazy" and "not handy" - so really need a system that is easy to connect or already together... something simple, that keeps clean, and is auto??

On a budget to top it off... can't spend a crazy amount on waterers

You could make something like this they sell all the parts or buy it already done. Contact the seller if you need more info.
