Hiya! We have

4 indian runner ducks
1 pair of australian spotted ducks. The drake is a greenhead and the duck a bluehead. Can't wait to see if we can get chicks next year!!
Love the runners, they are so comical and EXCELLENT layers...but I may have to choose which type to keep...hope not.

Well. ( blush) I seem to be the duck goddess around here lol
At last count .... ( Tonights bed check) 65 ducks

I Have call ducks, Saxony ducks, khacki campbells, Runners and 5 geese.... For the poster that has to many drakes and only a couple hen YOU NEED MORE GIRLS!!!!! LOL

My set up is a large night pen which they have 3 baby pools changed daily, in the morning they get let out to enjoy the man made pond that since its basically a big hole in the ground it drains competely daily so the water is fresh everyday. They have 1 predator proof house that I usually leave open ( No predatiors due to my awesome farm dog) a dog house and another one that they only use when it really cold out . They freerange all day and are trained to come when called "HOME" brings ducks from all over the yard ... some of the calls can fly and they fly right into the pen ( quite the sight) Now during breeding season all the breeds get broken into breeding groups by color or breed. They are allowed to nest if they choose to and I leave the babies with mom when I can. ( I remove all the call babies and raise them due to they have a huge death toll if left with mom) Ducks are the best... started with two so my kidz could do 4h

Now Im here with a whole darn bunch!!!!

I have five meat muscovies (JM Hatchery).

I think i like them too much to let them be meat. My question is are the meat ducks bred like meat chickens in the sense that they will develop physical problems from being too heavy? Can I ever expect these meat ducks to mate and lay?

dont think you will have a probem with them. Scovies are like that by nature. They just use the biggest specimens to breed them together. I hve three drakes and three ducks myself and have a had times cullin two of my males. ONe is the friendliest, the next has the best color (IMO) and the last is the biggest and the boss in my duckers gang.

girlie voices! not that i mind all the eggs, but more duckies would be nice!
