The chickens have two watering cups setup with a 5 gal bucket. For the last 3 months or so this worked great. They figured it out w/out a problem and were drinking their little hearts out. So much so, that one of them figured out that if she pulled on the yellow spring thingy in the middle, she'd get a lot of flow. So she started tugging and tugging, and now after three months of that one of the cups leaks right through the valve. I think she probably stretched the spring or damaged something else.
I like the cups because they dispense more water (IMHO) and the chickens seem to like drinking from them. I tried the nipples and thought that they weren't getting enough water out of them. But if I stick with the cup - will this happen again and again? This could become expensive and a hassle in a jiffy.
They also have a double walled galvanized waterer for the winter (which is now setup in the run to provide water until I figure out what to do with the cups). They like that too, but I can't put ACV in that, and I have heard so many complaints about the plastic ones that I'm not sure I want to go that route.
The questions:
1. Can I repair this?
2. Do I replace this with another cup of the same system?
3. Should I go with another system all together?
What's your opinion?
