Currently I just have a plastic tub for my hens water. I'd like to do something better for them. Any suggestions? I clean the water bucket everyday and they get fresh water everyday. Should I do more?

I am partial to the little PVC chicken nipples and float valve watering cups.

Take a look here for some options, CoopsNMore, there are 4 pages here of items you can get for a really nice water supply system. On pg 4 they have a complete 4 nipple system and a bucket to supply it.

This is only one option as all the online retailers sell some sort of waterers for your chickens. on this site down at the bottom is the Buy-Sell-Trade section and under Everything Else many members here sell complete systems that are real neat and work real good as well. If you are not real mechanically inclined I recommend that you buy one of the pre built system like the ones from AutoWaterKit that advertise in this forum. I have never bought or used one of their systems because I build my own but I really like the looks of what they make and they offer several options, one will surely meet your needs and they aren't that expensive. The auto water cups are great and they have a good page on teaching your birds to use the cups, don't worry if the cups look empty the birds know how to get water out of them.

There are many more systems available all you have to do is a google search for chicken water systems and follow the links and spend a little time reading. You can also search on YouTube and see many many many videos of things people have built. If you happen to live around Atlanta for a small fee I'll come over and build you something, I need the money!

What you have will work fine. I made a waterer from a 5 gallon plastic jug. It had laundry detergent in it. I got it from an assisted living place. I bought a pan that was about 4 inches larger than the jug from Tractor Supply. I washed it out and drilled a 3/8 inch hole about 1/2 the depth of the pan. Put water in it and set it in the pan and screw the cap on tight. The water will cover the hole. I still change it or empty the pan and rinse it out every day. I have 3 ducks that I contribute to the water getting dirty.

You could do this and never have to clean or carry water again. Always full and fresh and these nipples don't leak.

I use the nipples that Rich ^ sells. No more toting water to the coop and it stays fresh and clean. I will never use anything else.
