Watermelon day

I’m curious, where does everyone get the coral blues and chocolates?

I didn’t know they would eat watermelon either. I gave all mine to the chickens yesterday. Next time I’ll have to set some out for the guineas:)
I’ve never seen a chocolate in person. I’ve had a grand total of three coral blues, which are so gorgeous! First one: purchased as mixed group of eggs and got a surprise coral blue! Name her Mouse, and she was eaten by a bobcat (presumed) at 1 year of age while flirting with our roos because we had so few cocks...
Second: hatched by us last summer, only one out of around 100 keets! Added to group of juveniles for integration where it was killed by a black rat snake.
Third and fourth: hatched two this year! Just came home to one dead and shrink wrapped in pipped egg... Sigh. Other was sold as I’m frustrated with the integration of juveniles and so am trying to add only broody hatched keets.

Probably not what you’re asking. If you want specific colors and don’t see them advertised in your area, you probably need to mail order. Can you believe that a woman just drove from Texas to buy our royal purple keets!

Wow! That is a long ways to go for keets!
Im hoping adding the royals, lavenders, and whites will increase my likelihood for other colors, but I don’t know guinea color genetics.
I plan to hatch out a lot more keets next year. We will keep any colors we like and sell the majority.

Im not nearly experienced enough to spend money on mail order eggs. Too much of a gamble for me. I’m already pretty upset with my mail ordered keets. I just lost my third white one. It wasn’t growing and was sleepy a lot. The rest seem to be putting out feathers and growing well. I’m just upset that my first go at raising guineas from the store I only lost one and that was because I knew nothing about pasty butts.
I didn’t lose any of the ones I hatched on my own. I sold them at 2wks old.
Out of 18 keets I’ve lost 5. That just seems like a lot to me.

Shipping is so hard on eggs and keets! It’s really a gamble. I have lost some homebred keets as well, so no guarantees!

Whether or not your guineas will eat watermelon will remain to be seen. I give my chickens pumpkins which are immediately devoured. I tried giving some to my guineas. All they did was circle it while craning their necks and hollering at it.

Curious what you’d like to bring into your line?
Pretty much what I already have, Coral Blues, Chocolates, Sky Blues, Powder Blues and Lavender. My Coral Blues and Lavender will be 8 next year. The oldest Chocolate will be 7 and the Royal Purple, the oldest Sky Blue and the younger Chocolates will be 6.
