Watermelon Rinds

I have to make sure the kids leave enough on the rind so the chickens get some!! Melon, water and cantelope is one of their favorites for sure,,,when its hot, like now, i'll even toss it in the freezer for 20-30 mins just to make sure its nice and cold for them...that and a fresh pile of weeds and they are in chicken heaven....

Our elders are such a fountain of knowledge with these things aren't they? Some of it's "old wives tales", but most of it's good knowledge. They've been there and done that so they would know.

I just gave mine whatever was left of a rock melon that I cut up for us. They pecked it down to the skin by the end of the day. I try not to give them too much fruit so they wont get diarrhea.

I know, right? Dad and I laughed at her too...but, dern if he didn't kill two of his. It left Granny laughing at both of us....in short, beware of the "sore head!!!"
