Following the old thread here we decided to give our 8 wk old Americana/EE chick the Tylan but reduced dose to 1/2cc due to size and shot her in the thigh because her breast is tiny, crop was full and we were uncertain. Hope this works! Thoughts or additional advice is welcome. We also decided to put duramycin 10 in the water of all the chicks as preventative. We really don't like using pharmaceuticals but we also don't want to loose them and it will all be out of their little bodies way b4 they lay their first eggs. We did 400 mg of the duramycin to 1gal.

That was a few days ago, after day 2 "Buffy" was bouncing and playing, foraging. This was a first for her. Her sister chick had become symptomatic so we started her on same regime, she had her final of 3shots today and is also playful and foraging. I plan to switch the duramycin out of water for all and over to a probiotic for about 5 days then back to ACV. Thoughts?

Your plan seems good.

Probiotics will help replace any benificial organisms that the antibiotic killed.

I'm glad that she recovered.

Tylan really is the best antibiotic for treating respiratory diseases, especially in its injectable form. As for your plan, I think that it is good. After antibiotic treatment, lots of beneficial bacteria in the gut need to be replaced, and probiotics are great for doing that. ACV is great to use, as well.
