Watery Poo **PICS INCLUDED** + Not Eating or Drinking + Lethargic

Hello all!

I'm dealing with my first ill chicken and I'm hoping for advice. I've looked through the forums but I'm not finding much info.

My almost 2 yr old Buff Orp is acting ill -

Laying in one spot for very long periods,

• Head tucked,
• Not eating or drinking even when offered wet food with egg (which the other chickens devoured).
• All her poop is watery and the consistency of egg whites. I did not see any worms.
• Temps have been <80°F and they have lots of shade/water
• She is one of the lowest in the pecking order, and has always been smaller than the others, but she seems to have lost weight.
• Her crop is squishy and feels empty.
• Comb and wattles are red
• No mites or lice
• Eyes are clear,
• Feet/legs look normal
• Vent looks normal

I gave her a syringe of NutriDrench about 45 min ago and I plan to take a fecal sample in to the Vet on Monday for a float test, but I'm not sure what else to do.

Any kind advice is appreciated.

That sounds like sour crop. What I would do is give the hen some yogurt and apple cider vinegar if she won’t drink it give her it through a syringe. If that does not help to empty the crop then maybe try to make her throw up.

There is also a chance she doesn’t have sour crop but it can’t hurt. Is she still laying?

I do not believe she has sour crop. When I describe her crop as "squishy", I meant it was soft and empty, when the rest of the flock have "bulges" from eating. She is not emitting any sort of sour odor. Additionally, forcing a chicken to vomit is dangerous and can cause them to aspirate. I would not feel comfortable doing that.

I'm not certain if she is still laying. We got a new, MUCH larger coop a few weeks ago and the stress of the move has caused a drop in egg production. I believe she may have laid an egg yesterday, some hours after I administered the NutriDrench. I'm going out now to check last night's droppings.

I do appreciate your response. I'm not convinced sour crop is the problem, but I'll keep an eye (and nose) out for additional symptoms.
