WATERY POOP

I'm wondering if it's OK to continue the apple cider vinegar in their water along with the Corid. I didn't add the vinegar today but thought I should ask since it might be OK.

Took two stool samples to my vet today. From the droppings I found this morning, one of the hens has runny stools now. He found no parasites and no significant cocci and advised me to continue with the dewormer and corid and we'll check again after the treatment is completed. I hope this takes care of the problem since we have no idea what is going on. More later. Thank you so much for the good advice. Me and my chicks really appreciate it.

Did they do a gram stain?

He didn't say what he did and I didn't know to ask. What is a gram stain? Is it something vets normally do or should I ask for it specifically?

Did he give you an itemized bill?

Gram stain

a staining technique for the preliminary identification of bacteria, in which a violet dye is applied, followed by a decolorizing agent and then a red dye. The cell walls of certain bacteria (denoted Gram-positive ) retain the first dye and appear violet, while those that lose it (denoted Gram-negative ) appear red. Also called Gram's method.

He also should have done a direct smear and a fecal float.

My RIR roo has had "loose" poop since he was very young. It wasn't bad , I thought it was normal for him, so I didn't worry about it. The six hens are fine. I started feeding the flock (7 in all) Activia yogurt (with fruit - plain with probiotics isn't available here) three days ago thinking that would clear it up. Yesterday it was a little worse and today it is mosly liquid. I see no signs of worms. He is eating, drinking and acting normal. Gobbles up the yogurt and, this morning, warm oatmeal. Could the probiotics be making this worse? Should I be doing something else. They are all 19 weeks old.

Well, above is what I'm getting when I try to insert a picture so here's what I'm seeing. There is a small amount of dark in the poop surrounded partially by a milky, thicker liquid and then a clear, running liquid.

Thanks!
That poop is not normal. If they were mine I would stop feeding the human food and feed them fresh crumbles, or maybe scrambled eggs. If you want to feed probiotics, buy some that are for birds. Definetly talk to the vet and ask about having a gram stain done if the poop still looks like that.

Then I'm sure he didn't do the gram stain. The bill was $17 for the flotation. I was surprised the charge was so small - expected a lot more. He did tell me he has very little experience with poultry so guess we will both learn something from this.
