Open Contest Wattle I Do Without You?

Entry 1
Karen, oh Karen. 3.5 yr old hatchery EE. Full of character, sass and charm. Karen is first in line for treats and first on the roost at night. She’s first in my heart, too.
My favorite thing about Karen is how she sprints to me when I call to her when she’s out foraging in the woods. View attachment 4282286
Karen is a beautiful hen! Did you have to train her to come, or did she just do it on her own?
Meet Luna Lovegood 💜 my 3 year old lavender orpington. Luna is my gardening companion and exterminator for my shed 🤣. She never met a bug she didn't eat and she knows when I carry the gardening tools it's snack time out in the yard with mom. Her gentle disposition makes her a lovely helper!

She seems happy out in the snow :). Such a pretty picture!

Kenneth, an almost 6 month old spalding peacock, has been showing off since he was 4 days old. He’s a mama’s boy and will follow me around. Since he has gotten so big, he’s no longer allowed to perch on my shoulder.View attachment 4282983
He is very handsome! Will he get any bigger?

Alex, my ringneck, is now my only dove and is very dear to me. It took him months to get better from his illness and is still with me to this day.

Very nice picture :). Did you ever find out what was the matter with him?

My favorite girl, one of my original flock still going strong on her third winter, Fiona:

She’s an Olive Egger from Meyer Hatchery. Her first summer she got a bad case of bumblefoot. I soaked, cleaned, flushed and wrapped that foot for 3 months. She dealt with it all like a champ.

No problems since, but I still enjoy her calm personality and the way she chortles to herself when I toss them some treats.

It’s my doing. The first few times she came trotting and found herself first in line for a juicy horsefly. She learned quickly, like a week, what was waiting when I called out. She also jumps straight up about 3-4 ft to snatch a bug from me. I used to have a video of that on my old phone.

This is Tony. She means a lot to me because she is the oldest I have. Last year, Grandma was my oldest chicken and died just before May at the age of 9 so now Tony takes the spot for the oldest chicken and she is going to turn 9 sometime in April (I'm not sure exactly when I bought her, all I know is that I bought her sometime in 2017, a year after Grandma).

Mama Fuzz is from the first batch of chicks we started with. She has been our number one mother hen, hatching & raising many clutches. She is an excellent mother and we can always count on her. She has hatched many eggs but she has also taken in young chicks we've purchased- she loves any baby she can get. She has raised all kinds of birds including bantams (sebrights & silkies) and even turkeys. We love her to pieces and appreciate her so much- hatching & raising babies in a brooder is my worst nightmare so having a good broody hen who we can count on is worth her weight in gold at our place. ❤️

I got Peck, and EE, as a chick in 2020. She is the last one of my original 3, and is definitely my favorite. Although she doesn't like to be picked up, it's ok, because as soon as I sit, she jumps up on my lap. She snuggles her head under my elbow, and falls asleep as she gets petted. I absolutely love her!
