Open Contest Wattle I Do Without You?

Entry #1: This is Penny. She was the last one at tractor supply because she had splayed legs and curly toe paralysis. She is a barred olive egger. To keep her from being culled, we took her at 3-years ago when she was a wee one. She is a gift from God.

This is my Connie aka Snuggle Buddy. She is the biggest mush around. She loves sitting on your lap and tucking her head under your arm and being petted. Each night I would need to bend down to her perch so she could snuggle in. Her favorite treat is Blueberries.View attachment 4287704
Such a pretty hen! I love her feathering. What breed is Connie?
Entry #2

Penny Marshall 💙❤️ my blue laced red wyandotte. Penny's time on this earth was relatively short- but for those who knew her she was a friend to all. This is her hatch day celebration in the Spring of last year!

One of my favorite pictures of her (and there are ALOT of pictures of her lol)

Penny was beautiful. I've heard of her, but don't know much about her. Sorry you lost her so soon!
Entry #3

Meet Bernadette (RIP).
At three weeks of age Bernie lost the use of her legs (first one then the other) and was unable to walk. She was such a commanding leader however that she ruled over her brooder buddies from a seated position.
What followed was many, many weeks of industrial quantities of vitamin B and daily physical therapy so that her tendons would not contract.
I nearly euthanized her twice, but there was something about Bernie.
Here she is shortly after she informed me that she no longer needed therapy. She is showing off her long and totally functioning legs.
She went on to rule benignly (if noisily) and in adulthood became, what I think is the most accurate description, non-binary being devoted to a little hen called Eli.

Good job, Bernie! Some chickens just don't want to give up, do they? Glad your dedication paid off :).

She looks happy and I'm glad you were able to save her. Does she live inside permanently?

Entry #2 This is Henrietta. Henrietta is a 3 1/2 year old black Australorp. This picture was taken the day our vet told me she had reproductive cancer with an optimistic 1-month to live. She then asked me if we wanted to euthanize that day. We said no and left with Henrietta. That was early March of 2025. Two implants later, Henrietta is still with us, walking, eating and drinking normally for now. She is a gift from God.

I remember your Penny!! What a cutie! How is she doing?

This is Tony. She means a lot to me because she is the oldest I have. Last year, Grandma was my oldest chicken and died just before May at the age of 9 so now Tony takes the spot for the oldest chicken and she is going to turn 9 sometime in April (I'm not sure exactly when I bought her, all I know is that I bought her sometime in 2017, a year after Grandma).

This thread is really great! Such wonderful heartwarming stories of all fluffies past and present. Do we have a spot on this site where people can share a story or memory specific to a favorite hen? Hearing all of these stories how people rescued a special bird or worked through a health challenge is such a positive light in the chicken world. I find it lovely to read these special stories and relationships 😊

This is my Princess Xena. Sadly Xena past away at the age of 13. She would become our house chicken and loved cuddling up and watching TV. She was super sweet. She had her own princess pillow that she would sleep on. Miss by little girl.View attachment 4287706
