Entry #3
Meet Bernadette (RIP).
At three weeks of age Bernie lost the use of her legs (first one then the other) and was unable to walk. She was such a commanding leader however that she ruled over her brooder buddies from a seated position.
What followed was many, many weeks of industrial quantities of vitamin B and daily physical therapy so that her tendons would not contract.
I nearly euthanized her twice, but there was something about Bernie.
Here she is shortly after she informed me that she no longer needed therapy. She is showing off her long and totally functioning legs.
She went on to rule benignly (if noisily) and in adulthood became, what I think is the most accurate description, non-binary being devoted to a little hen called Eli.
