Feeding Wild Birds

Been hearing the mating calls of the Collared Doves and the Blue Jays. Heard the mating call of a Starling this morning.

Filled in the areas that a Northern Flicker opened under the eaves of my woodshop. Looks like I got it done while the starlings were out. No sign of the starlings in the woodshop this morning.

Found a dead yearling deer at the club this morning. Did not appear emaciated or injured in any way. Not certain why it died.

Around here the main cause of deer death is vehicle encounters.

The male Red-wings are here and singing this morning. It's been such a mild winter that they have been here off and on all winter. They started singing a couple of days ago.

Black squirrel on the club lane this morning, a few male redwings have arrived, and the Phoebes are back as of this morning.

Wood frogs are 'quacking' away at the club. 75F weather will do that. Snow threatened tonight - good thing they create their own 'anti freeze'.
Something tackled a skunk in the backyard last night. My strongest guess/inclination is that it was a GHO.
