Feeding Wild Birds

one of our flicker friends stopped by to show their appreciation for me refilling the logs this morning. These guys have become one of our favorite birds to see on the feeders.. in fact my husband made and hung several more of these feeders because we are up to five individuals now I believe that like to frequent our yards and aren't too fond of sharing. I love hearing their distinctive call across the cool morning air and then trying to spot them before they swoop down to feed.
Got busy yesterday and made refills for the squirrel feeder and the bird block holders...put them out first thing this morning and the yard has been hopping ever since .

Beautiful Flicker, ours don't have the blue on them and not so many speckles. We have Northern Flicker and I've never seen them come to the feeders, just pecking at the trees, usually pines.

My Northern Flickers are heavy users of the suet cakes.

Ours are here spring and fall, too cold for them in winter, wish I could just fly around until the weather suited me
Mine show up in the fall and stick around until they leave in the spring. It gets plenty cold here in normal winters.
