Hi Peeps!

Greetings from Perth, Western Australia!

I’m doing a backyard Reno and am excited about getting some Silkies (and getting rid of the trampoline!). I’ve been researching my pants off and have chosen the coop, know what bedding/feed/feeders to buy and think 4 Silkie ladies would be ideal for us. I’m hoping to be able to taken the girls to my son’s school (he has multiple special needs and the teachers are happy for them to come in as they already have farm animals on a regular basis). Is there any advice or recommendations that you could pass on? I can’t decide if I should get white ones (how to tell apart?) or different colors. Is 100m2 too small for four silkies to free range during the day?

Thanks for reading and would love any info you have to pass on. Also, any recommendations for fabulous Silkie breeders in the Perth area.

Thank you so much and I’m looking forward to being part of this awesome community.

Xx

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I have no idea where you can find your silkie chicks but we have members here from Australia that can guide you.
100 m2 is a HUGE area for you 4 little silkies to roam!
I personally enjoy a mixed flock and would get multiple colors.

Welcome to BYC. You’ve chosen a great breed of chicken. Silkies and also Cochin Bantams are great breeds for children I haven’t Silkies but I have Cochin bantams and they are the sweetest little things I can snuggle with them, pet on them. Start when tiny chicks. I understand Silkies are the same. Wish you and your son the best in your new adventure!
